NEW TIRES anyone?

I need new tire on my Convertible already. How long are your tires lasting and those who have replaced theirs... what have you used? The original ones ride beautifully (specially when compared to the run-flat of the 335 I had) but they have worn off fast. I have 8,000 miles and they look like they may last about another 3,000 or so.

I went Nitto INVO's. I'm running 285/30/19 in the rear, but I'm noticing my speedometer even more inaccurate and I believe I'm racking up miles quicker than 2% so I may try out 285/35/19, I just hope they don't look too big!

My rear tires lasted 12000km/8000miles (including track days). I replaced them with the original Michelin PS2. IMO the PS2 are excellent but rather expensive; especially if you have to replace them every year...

Yeah, it's hard to beat the OEM PS2s across all performance axes. The one I am not willing to trade off on is noise; the PS2 is the quietest max performance tire. Tire rack has some great data.

I have 13k miles and am on my 3rd set of tires. Combo of some track time, and awesome NJ potholes. My first set of rears was down to 4/32nds (BMW's cutoff for warranty replacement) by 8k miles.

If you don't track the car at all, and rarely find yourself driving at high speeds, then jump down from a Max performance tire to something with a slightly lower speed rating. On my E46 M3 vert I replaced my Pilot Sports w/ some Dunlops (I think; may have been Bridgestones. I just remember that they had an awesome snakeskin looking tread pattern) and the ride was better, and the tires lasted almost twice as long for less $$.

My first set lasted 11,000 miles with 2 track days and one autox on them. This second set doesn't look like they're going to last as long and I'm only 5000 miles in; and I don't have any track days on them...

BMW warranties against road hazard or did you pay extra for the warranty? Hit a pothole a few weeks back and have 2 bubbles on one of my front right tires. Great NJ roads.

As for the OP, I would stick with PS2's. With that said, I just put some INVO's on my wife's car and I have to say they might be just as good as the PS2's. Soft, quiet, great traction in dry/wet, and they're much cheaper than PS2's. Not sure about long term since we put them on about 2 weeks back. If you're on a budget, get the INVO's. As for myself I'm sticking with the PS2's.

I paid for the tire/wheel warranty coverage from BMW. It's been great. Haven't paid a dime yet.

My sister has had like 5 wheels replaced with this plan too and never had an issue.

I feel the pain. I had to replaced one front and one rear tires within 2 month of my new car. They came close to a $1,000 after everything including road hazard insurance. haha

How much does the tire warranty cost? TX roads are notoriously full of crap - have lost on avg a tire/p.a. due to nails etc - and I'd definitely be interested. CA never mentioned this

hold on.... tire warranty covers a new tire when your tires are to worn? I thought it was only when they get damaged.

I am pretty sure the 285/30-19 is almost spec on

The 285/35-19 is bang on but really tall sidewall.

It is noticeable depending on what you have on the front. Been there and done that.

Mr Harris...how are the Invo's at high speed? I'm in need of two new rear tires...but for the cost of two PS@ rears i'm thinking i may replace all 4 and sell my PS2 fronts for whatever i can get...which have about 50% left.

Well .. the OP is after all in FL .. so your choice is wide. Yokohama Advan Sport .. seems to get some good reviews in the Max Performance Tire categories.

What about considering UHP A/S tires? I haven't personally used them but I've heard incredible things about them. They have excellent wet weather traction, wear well, quiet and only compromise a bit of handling.

Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position RE960AS and Michelin Pilot sport A/S Plus come to mind. Both have great review on tirerack.

Of course you could stick to performance all year round since you weather permits.

Tire warranties are available from dealers, not from BMW. Lots of folks have gotten the one from Flow BMW (ask for Ed). I think I paid $375 for a 3 year warranty - will pay for itself the first time I need it.

There are competing firms out there as well. None of them cover normal wear, and AFAIK none of them cover curb rash. But potholes, nails, etc. are all covered.

My car's done 12,500 Kms and my rears are down to 3mm tread. The fronts still have around 5.5mm in them. I'm thinking it's time to replace the rears, but I'll keep the fronts going for a while longer.

Wait till you hear what the tyres cost here: Fronts: Approx. $720 each, Rears: Approx. $800 each!

The guys that have replaced, have you just done your rears and not your fronts? My rears, at 14k miles, look like they def need replaced, but the fronts look good.

Actually, I bought the R.O.A.D. InTire Warranty (Gold upgrade) which covers everything, including cosmetic repair to the wheels. Bought it through my local BMW dealer. Found a link that describes the warranty in summary form (see below):
