Drive to the track with the tires or on the tires?

I plan to do my first track event, in my own car, next month. The track, CMP, is about 30 miles from my house. Do you think I should drive to the track with my track wheels/tires on the car (OEM 18s, with PS2s) or take them to the track and change them out once I get there?

It would provide a bit of insurance should I damage one of the wheels/tires if I took two sets with me but it is a bit of a pain. What are the chances of puncturing a tire, etc. in your experience?

When I go to VIR later in the year, I will not attempt to go up there with just one set due to the distance. However, I figure in this case, I could always just call someone to bring me my other set of wheels/tires if necessary.

30 miles is close enough. For your first track day just relax and enjoy. Try to get as many rides as you can with instructors. Let us know how it goes.

When are you going and with what group? I'm picking up my car on may 16th and have a Lemons race the next weekend. Come out to CMP and check out my MCB sedan.
I'll be looking to hit VIR too this summer.

Also, just drive with your track wheels. It's not far and one less thing to do there.
I used to drive my Elise to Road Atlanta from Nashville all the time with my track tires.

Thinking about going on Friday, May 13th. Actually I just realized that is 'Friday the 13th' so maybe I shouldn't. But I plan to go multiple times this year. We should get a group together for CMP or VIR later in the year. Congrats on the MCB E90. That will be sweet!

I will be in the novice group.

FYI, just drove over 100 miles round trip to the track and did 4, 30 minute sessions. The ad08's did great but was a bit cold and wet for them to really shine at the track.
