Bumping up an old thread to give my impressions on the exhaust.
I had OEM modded exhaust(perf method) and recently switched to AA test pipes and a used Megan Racing exhaust. To be honest I'm not thrilled with the sound! I've read so many threads about this exhaust and ultimately decided on it because people loved the sound when paired with TPs. It's much bassier and deeper than my OEM mod. Almost a more subdued deep sound than the rabid sounding OEM mod. At coldstart idle, I'd say the volume between the two is similar, with the Megan being much more intrusive based on how bassy it is. With the OEM mod, I could basically face the exhaust away from neighbors and it was quiet everywhere else. The Megan is so deep that it's loud no matter where you're standing. Initial drive, wouldn't say there's drone, but again the deep bass is enough to be slightly annoying below 2k RPM. Then everything gets quieter in the higher RPM. Revs sound great, driving sounds good. It's really only loud when you get on it(unless you're under 2k). I'm going to drive with it for a few weeks before I decide to keep it or sell it. Initial first impression is that I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be. Maybe I have an exhaust leak that I need to sort out or something. I'll check this weekend. |

Exhaust sound is so subjective. I have the Megan with testpipes and I have people chase me down to tell me how good my car sounds. The cold start is extremely loud, in fact I live in a Townhome with my own garage and I have had my fellow neighbors who are attached to me come out to see what the heck is that thing. What I would do is if you have a tune just get the cold start deleted out with a tune. Dave

I know for a fact that you never get the full sound when inside the car. Us E93 guys get the full brunt of the note and it sounds glorious. It does sound a lot different with the top down. I've got an 'upgrade' coming so I'll be switching out my AA pipes for a Macht Schnell X-Pipe
