I am so glad to hear you are finally getting your car next week. It has been a very long time in coming, and I have no idea how you were able to be patient and last this long. Enjoy the car - you deserve it. We all want to hear how it goes and to see pics of course. Regarding this thread - I lusted for an M car since the very first model appeared back in my youth. I have owned two P Cars a Ferrari, and an Aston Martin DB9; and one of the best cars of all time (which I am sure nobody here has ever heard of) Fiat Strada. Love the P cars - loved the Ferrari - the Aston was incredible............. But none of these beat the current M3 in a naturally aspirated form, as a do everything daily car for all seasons. |

Thanks Sam!!! Yeah, it will have been 9 months since I first put in an order... It was really hard to wait, especially after that meet we had in March. Spring was pretty bad. (I was originally supposed to get it in April.) But I had always hoped I could time its arrival after the mortgage was done with... The 2013 model year allowed me to do that. I am so, so excited now. Car should arrive (at the dealership) approx. Monday. WOOT!

when I was in high school and first saw a silver E36 M3 coupe... now that they're attainable I just have to somehow convince the wife!

20 years ago, my Dad got a bmw & Ever since, I've had the hots for BMW.
When the time came, I was having a hard time choosing a 95 e36 m3 & a turbo Supra. In the end, I chose the e36 m3 instead. After many track events, I was so glad that I chose the m3, a daily driver can accommodate 4 adults quite comfortably, a groceries getter, & a respectable track toy. After that, owned a 99m3. Was about to jump into the e46m3, but had to move to Vietnam for a business opportunity. I couldn't afford an m3 here because of freaking taxes here are crazy expensive, so I have to settle for this lowly 325i. Not sure if I want the F80 m3 though, we'll see about that when it's on the market.

I've been a car guy since I was a kid. I was jealous of a high school friend who had a 2002 in the mid 70's. I spent a long time being practical and buying more utilitarian cars before finally getting my first BMW. I was just starting the search for a new car, having given up on a "cursed" SAAB 9-5 Aero Wagon that had been flooded and in 2 wrecks(not my fault) within 6 months. At the time, I didn't think I could afford an M3, so I was looking for a ZHP 330. My dealership had one on the show room floor that I loved, but I also test drove a used E-46 M3. I did get the 330 and still have it...it is my SCCA autocross car, but the lust for an M3 was instilled.
In 2008, a friend got an E90 M3 and promptly made things worse for me. He invited me to co-drive it at BMW Club autocrosses! I was amazed at how drivable the 400+ horsepower were and how much fun the car was. Later in 2008, I found a used 2005 E46 M3(Mystic Metallic Blue) convertible that followed me home. After a short shift kit, a Magnaflow exhaust and some aftermarket wheels, I had a car that I was very happy with...at least until late in 2010, when a new for 2011 ZCP E90 showed up on my dealer's web site. I agonized over it for about a week, trying to decide if I really could make the deal happen. The answer kept coming up as yes. After test driving the new M3, I traded in the old M3 vert for the new sedan. Almost 2 years later, I still love this car. Even with the stock exhaust, I love the sound of the V8 every time I go through the gears(6MT). It is a blast to autocross! It even has the practicality of 4 doors for when my kids are visiting, or I have co-workers along on the way to meetings. |

This made me chuckle.
When I bought my E92 M3 in 2010, I thought that I had purchased God's car. I was still in NYC at the time - I would wait until 12AM or so (after working all day) and then sneak out to terrorize the poor motorists of NYC on the FDR or West Side highway. And despite being bone stock, the whole process was exhilirating ... And then - well, like you, I discovered motherf@cking M3 Post and realized that I was merely driving a "Civic." All of a sudden, I noticed how clunky and understated the stock exhaust was - the engine - once a high-revving destroyer of souls (haha) - now lacked the requisite "oomph" factor that I was looking for. And so the modding began. Is it necessary? Almost certainly not. But this God-forsaken website has an annoying way of planting the seed ... (it's probably subsidized by BMW dealerships and performance shops everywhere )

When I got out of the Marines in 2005, I dated a chick who had an E46, I drove it all the time.... I loved it and I told myself when I can afford it I'll buy one. Too bad I dumped her a long time ago......

E46 M3. My dad has had a '57 Thunderbird since I was little and I could never wrap my mind around why he wanted this old car that drove like crap and had no bells and whistles. His response was always "This is the car I wanted when I was a kid and I've always loved it."
Fast forward to high school and my friend gets a brand new E46 M3 convertible for his 16th birthday......that car will never look old to me and I've been a lost cause ever since. |
