Congrats on your choice. The engines are bulletproof and like you've learned can be modded very easily. Just be aware that the early 996tts's (2003 included) had some transmission syncro issues. I have heard of some failing in under 10k miles.

as far as traction control and ABS go, i really don't know what the implications of converting RWD are. you'll get a better response to that question on the better known Porsche forums. all i know is that people successfully convert to RWD by simply disconnecting the front drive shaft, so i can't imagine the implications would change much by actually removing that front drive shaft and the associated FWD parts.
i'm not sure what Porsche forums you've been to, but 6speedonline.com is quite refined. if you can weed through the bullshitters (who incidentally exist on all online forums anyways), there are alot of knowledgeable people there who can help you with just about any question you may have. also, Rennlist is a good one, although i haven't been there in ages...hopefully its still a wealth of Porsche knowledge like it used to be.

I saw a post on rennlist last night that directed me towards 6speedonline and all I can say is wow ... and even more so in regards to the RWD conversion. (I was up 'til 5AM) To say that the conversion is a highly debated topic is an understatement. You'll get less passionate reactions over here asking whether DCT is better than a manual. Thanks again guys. |

Get the 911, drive for 1 year, then trade in for a European Delivery M3. Chances are, you will not have to spend a dime out of pocket in this trade...
So you will end up with the M3, but in the meantime you get some quality seat time in one of the most remarkable and talked-about driving machines ever produced. At no cost to you, what with the extended warranty and short time frame... All I can get for $50k is a 2006 C2 in this area. Still tempting... |
