I agree that it sounds incredibly unlikely that anyone from BMW told a possible customer to "wait a year" on any of their products. At the same time markjenz, the OP has been a good contributor to the forum. I'm pretty sure He holds the record for E92 M3 recorded speed with photo evidence! |

you are probably right with saying one should use the shift lights...i had a mt for one year and it was great to rev it up to 8400..(if the engine is capable of reving that high i want to do it)
now with the dct it looks you cannot go that far...ok...but still the abrupt way the next gear set in frightened me! coming back on the words of bmw: i know 3 people here in germany who had severe discussions with bmw about their dct and finally got their cars changed into mt. bmw was not happy about this... i know some (all are doing track days) who still are in the process of negociating....my impression is that bmw is pissed off cause they think the transmission works quite well in normal driving, which is true... when i had the call, i mentioned all this and said i do not want to have discussions in 2 months after having bought the dtc...they should gaurantee, that all problems will be solved! to make it clear: i would love to have this transmission, but i will use the car on the track quite often and for this the problems are too annoying if not sorted out completely. maybe i am wrong and the software update will be fine...and all of you dtc owners will be happy!!! p.s. the car i drove was jun08...

As I wrote in the other DCT software thread, could the shift lag at redline thing be due to tach lag? You're commanding the shift when the tach says 7500, but maybe the true RPM is like 8300, hence hitting the limter? When you're accelerating hard the revs build up very fast. It was like this in the E46 M3 too. I could very well believe that the tachometer is not keeping up.

Yes but when I use the shift lights the gears change earlier than 8400RPM. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I should add - if you are not in S5 or S6, its likely it will tell you to shift earlier anyway (can't verify that yet myself - car still not broken in). |

DCT is working great for me. I'm sure there are a few buggy cars out there but that would apply to more than just DCT. I wouldn't even think twice about going DCT again.

I have had no real issues on the street. Just the odd track issues

as you continue to drive more, you will get the know the car better, and learn how it shifts. right now I can redline without worry about hitting the limited, you will learn to anticipate the shift.
also, as footie said, in the low gears and under light/moderate acceleration the shift won't be as aggresive/fast
