Poll: confused between 2 colors - plz help before production starts!
hello all,
happy holidays - I submitted my order last month, and currently have first week of February 2012 as production date. the color combo I submitted is: Space Gray with Red/Black/Black. the other color I am debating of changing to is Lemans Blue. -Unfortunately being overseas, I haven't had the chance of seeing many of the standard M3 colors in person. -I have only test driven 1 m3, and that was a lemans blue M3 in Munich, but during the test drive, I thought the color was a little too dark for me. -I have seen a few glimpses of AWs, 1 SG, and 1 FO. -the reason i am going with space gray is for the low key profile, takes on dirt well, the bulge shows most, goes well with the CF roof, beast under the hood, yet elegant/classy on the outside. Cons: more gray cars on the road than blue. doesn't stand out too much.i am afraid i might get bored of Gray down the road, even though I never had a gray car before. ----------------------------------------- -the reason I haven't made up my mind 100% is because I like sporty colors and blue is my favorite color growing up, although I wish the LMB was a little lighter, but I guess I can live with it and will get used to it eventually. LMB is more lively and sporty than SG, although not too flashy like IB or AW/MW per say. Please give me your votes on exterior/interior selection and any other input you think will make my decision easier!! |

Personally, of all the color combination offered for the M3, I would chose Le Mans with a black interior. While the grey isn't bad, it's a little boring and I'm not a fan of the interior colors that are lighter or brighter.

Any silver/grey leather is nasty, regardless of the exterior colour.

just got this exact same color combo on my 2012 m3 and absolutely love it, no regrets for a second. i do think blue looks nice too but i don't think you'll be disappointed with space gray. attaching some pics - as you've probably read, the fox red is not nearly as orange as it appears in the attached pic. it's more of a dark red, i just love it.

I went for grey...but I always seem to! (last 4 cars!)
The grey is neat, in that it seems to change color at different angles. It sometimes seems more metallic than others....sometimes it is a deep grey, other times almost a steel grey..... I love the effect! Sure it is a boring color, but it will wear well over time. I also love the blues. Interlagos with it's purple undertones, and lemans with the more "blue" base and sparkly nature. I liked lemans better since it was less extreme. Sometimes lemans seems lighter too, but Depends on the angle and lighting. I feel your pain, since these are 2 awesome colors. I liked the lemans better than the grey, but ordered grey because I would not grow annoyed with it over time. |

I would normally say go with LMB (awesome color, would have been my choice, but my buddy has that color), but I don't like the interior colors that you listed. Personally, I am not a huge fan of silver interiors. I like the idea of bamboo, but I haven't seen in person to know if I like it with the M. I do like Fox, but not with blue... sorry, no Superman for me...

Both SG & LMB are great colors. I moved from a Topaz blue e46M3 which I loved. Topaz is similar to Lemans. The color has a lot of personality and depth with the change of light. I let my interior drive the exterior color this time around. Fox Red was the only interior color that I was considering. Space Grey is great for a lot of the reasons that you mentioned. It masks dirt/dust, sets off perfectly with carbon fiber and Red. I also like it because it can fly under the radar at times. I would advise against Palladium or BamPoo as interior colors.
MY Space Gray/Fox Red ED

I can say the palladium silver/black looks AWESOME on both jet black and Silverstone because the leather is actually silverstone and not grey/silver. However on any other color it would clash so severely so whatever you choose do not choose this! (I have it in my silverstone and love it but that is the only two colors it works with)

Both of my e90 M3s were ordered and both times I regretted not getting Space Gray. Alpine with Bamboo extended, then Jerez with Bamboo extended.
Funny, I voted for Le Mans with Bamboo. I haven't had a Blue car in a while. New vote: Space with Bamboo Actually, I went in to change my second order to Space Gray, but it had already gone into production.

Thanks for all who voted and who provided feedback.
grrr..this is becoming harder.. PapaKlix, I think I have seen your car on the forum before and that what made me lean toward that combo. I think I saw a similar combo on the frozen gray, and thought it was nice as well.. for now I am keeping my order unchanged with SG/Red/Blk/Blk... will see if my heart and heads start clashing again in a few days ! |

The E9X looks good in several colors, I am still driving myself a little crazy trying to make a final decision (my car does not go into production before Feb. either).
Try to see the colors and color combinations in real life. You have some time. Go with your gut-o-meter.

No advice to offer just glad someone else is flip-flopping on colors. I had originally thought red with fox/black/black. Now I'm thinking hmmmm, haven't had a beige interior in a while..... lol

mine is space gray with black extended with carbon interior and I believe it is the classiest combination of all. IMO I would stay away from the fox red. don't think it looks as good as all black. if you decide on LMB then I would stay with all black interior as well.

^^ I (personally) find Space Grey on the M3 body style (as compared to the 335i body style) looks better, more aggressive. But LeMans looks terrific too. Again, I think the color looks better on the M3.
Another factor I considered is what the interior colors look like after a couple of years. Try to take a look at used examples of Fox Red, Palladium and Bamboo. They look different. Make sure you like the color when it's worn too.

Big factor on thinking about going with Bamboo interior is whether you are a blue jeans kinda person. Big issue with the blue marks on the seat edges from getting in & out. Absolutely beautiful color though.
