New license plate.....

California issues what they call a retro plate. Black with gold letters like in the 60's.

I looked to see if this letter/number configuration was available and it was.

Got it.....

I'll pass on this since it looks awful on AW.

Btw how did u look up its license number availability? I tried online but couldn't find that function. Plus is it true that if you check and it's not avail you still have to pay a fee?

After seeing a lot of white cars the past few weeks with the retro black plates... They actually look good on white. But those cars/ suv's had darker colored or black wheels, tint, and blacked out mouldings.

That being said I think an M3 with the m performance grills and all the CF goodies would look good with these plates.

When I got my personalized plates I was able to check availability online before ordering and paying anything.

I wonder what is the process of swapping my personalized plates for the same ones but in the retro black.

The problem with Calif is the front plate. It messes with the design aesthetics in the state that has the coolest cars on the planet!

sorry to blow your little bubble but cars in california would be what maids and janitors drive in Dubai.

Also if you go to Beijing there are so many millionaires nearly all the cars are high end audis, bmw's and mercedes, they don't go for supercars like in dubai as their roads are permanently congested.

There is a lot of money in Dubai, but it doesn't filter down to the maids and janitors, who are generally foreigners whose passports are taken from them upon arrival for work and not returned until they depart the country.

Plus, a lot of the cool cars in Dubai ended up abandoned at the airport as the expats were fleeing the country (and their debts).

I ordered a set of the retro plates for my black car and in the process of choosing them online the configurator lets you know instantly if the plate is available or not. It took me a number of tries to find one that we wanted which was available. All before you have to pay anything. I am not sure how the paper method works.

It did take about 12 weeks for my retro plates to arrive at the DMV. That is the only downside. Also, at times the plate looks like a really dark brown colour, but that is much less noticeable once it is on the car.

You can check availability on custom plates all day long for free on the CA dmv website.

Being from the Bay Area where people clearly have too much bloody money, I can concur that some of the shit I see is just insane. Apparently a p1 parade down highway 1 is now just common place. I think it's fun to have super rare cars show up to cars and coffee or have impromptu "cars and curry" meets with super car owners in a random small town.

I'm second owner on my '11 ZCP sedan and it already had from plate holder mounted. So I'm rocking my "classic" plate. Give the E9x a few more years and it will be a classic!

Coming soon to my Jet Black M3.

Both your and Plastic' plates rock! If possible I'd a similar thing to mine in a blink.

Exaggeration. Foreign migrant workers in Dubai are severely underpaid. Hell, even expat skilled professionals are underpaid to a certain extent.

Fack, Dubai itself is supported on borrowed money.

Personalized plates, aggressive driving, giving people the bird, parking waaayyy out there in an open lot, etc. All this opens you up as a target.

perhaps, whatever you'd like to think, but the outside world is much more irrational than you are.

I'm not taking a chance at someone else in judging me b/c of a personalized plate and decide to do some vandalism while they're at it...just saying, rather not stick out like a sore thumb when I don't have to, and plates play a part in it.
