Do you think the i8 is a good looking car?

From a debate in the Dukec thread:

Is the BMW i8 good looking, or not?

I think its good looking. The design makes sense. Most poeple would say the same. If it had a V10 I would think its absolutely great looking. If it had thick staggered wheels in the rear it would be even better. The car is aged, the design is aged, its wearing thick on gimmicky now, its been busted as a fraud to the future, it is not an exotic. The Acura and Lexus guys laugh at how "slow" it is but blowing their wheels off. So this same question back in 2015 would have a very different answer then today.

yes, in it's own futuristic way it is a cool looking car IMO. If I were given one I would not turn it down.

I like it but I think Chris Harris described the rear end as looking like it’s giving birth to a 911.

Be aware that the color combo of the car also plays a big part in the look. I hate the mainly white, with black and blue combo ones as shown above. Nice solid color looks better

To me it just looks like it’s trying too hard to be special and then it has no guts to move fast enough. I’m thumbs down.

This. When they are in a solid color, they look really nice.

100%

Looks great but doesn't even come close to being as powerful as the looks suggest and that's the sad part. They could've done better

All these posts saying how it's not powerful enough but the F80 M3/4 and the i8 have the same 0-60 of 4.2 sec, they have the same 1/4 mile of 12.2.

Wasn't the point, to show hybrid technology, that can give decent performance, in a 'showcase' model. Making it a high powered supercar would, IMO, be in conflict with why BMW developed it.

Personally I believe the i8 too far advanced at launch, for many to grasp the significance of what BMW could offer as an 'efficient' drivetrain.

At the end of the day, its a three cylinder powered vehicle that looks like a super car. Im out.

Sure I'd take one but I'd never buy one.

yes, also when it first came out it was def a eye catcher, even today it still is. You dont see a lot of them either which makes it even more unique I feel.

just wish it was faster

I was never a fan, but I think it is the colors that mess it up. The blue contrast always turned me off and seems to hide the lines of the car. I saw an all black one at a show once and was like "What's that?" Before I got close enough to recognize it. I was shocked how much I liked the lines when the contrast colors were not there throwing them off.

I get your point. That is the literal interpretation. I’m looking at it from a slightly different angle. A 3 cylinder engine with skinny tires making under 400 horses is underwhelming to me. A powerful car should be heard rumbling in and thundering out of view. Nobody’s wrong here, just different ideas.

It's pretty cool looking but feels like it's missing an "edge" or something.

that pretty much summarizes my feeling as well. i actually think it's aging pretty well. it's nearly 10 years old at this point, but it doesnt look like some cringeworthy, jetson-ized vision of the future. i think it will hold up and become somewhat collectible.
