Stoptech Trophy Brake System Installed at HP Autowerks, Inc.

Just sharing some photos of the new Stoptech Trophy Brake system. This particular system was installed on an E92 M3.

Front Kit is 380 x 35mm
Rear Kit is 355 x 35mm

Some of you may have already seen this kit on an E92 M3 in Stoptech's booth over Bimmerfest weekend.

"StopTech, a manufacturer of brake components and brake
systems for production-based race cars and high performance vehicles,
has introduced the new Trophy Big Brake Kits. These premium Big Brake
Kits from Centric Parts' ultra-performance division sport a host of
features optimized for production-based cars on the race track.
StopTech's Trophy Big Brake Kits represent the first time StopTech has
made race-specific brake systems available to the public after the
company's long relationship with championship-winning professional race
teams.

"StopTech's Trophy Brake Systems take our experience and successes from
our racing program and deliver on-track performance with no compromise,"
said Dan Lelchuk, president of Centric Parts. "As far as the brakes go,
you provide the pads and the track, and a StopTech Big Brake Kit
provides the rest for your stock or tuned performance production car."

These racetrack and competition brake systems come with StopTech's new
Trophy STR lightweight forged calipers in four- or six-piston
configurations and include the option of a quick release version of the
StopTech patented bridge. These "track only" calipers feature the same
metallurgy and design of the StopTech ST-40 and ST-60 calipers, but are
engineered to provide a 20-percent reduction in weight without
sacrificing stiffness or performance. "Every race team out there is
obsessed with shaving off weight, no matter what the sport, and
StopTech's Trophy STR racing calipers do just that," said Dino
Crescentini, CEO of Centric Parts and race car driver in the SCCA World
Challenge Series on The SPEED Channel.

StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kits include the company's patented
AeroRotors, engineered to increase airflow by 11 percent for better
cooling and performance. Unique to the Trophy Brake Systems is
full-floating mounting hardware, which eliminates pad knock-back. The
patented, billet 7075 aluminum AeroHats create an additional 4 percent
airflow, according to StopTech. Together, these technologies optimize
the rotor system to provide even performance and consistent feedback to
the pedal under the unique combination of hard cornering and braking
found on the track.

StopTech Trophy Brake Systems will be available through motorsports
distributors in January 2009 for selected high-performance production
cars including Porsche, BMW, Mitsubishi Lancer EVO, Nissan GTR and 350Z,
Chevrolet Corvette C5 and C6 and others."

Please contact me for details.

And that's the front wheel with the 380mm rotor!? How much clearance would you say? Would it clear the stock 18" the same way?

"track only" calipers?

What makes them not suitable for the street?

The Advan Racing wheels I am pretty sure will fit a 380 mm kit, the stock 18's are a totally different story

There are several aftermarket 18's that fit 380 mm brakes, just not the stock 18"

Actually the car pictured is mine, im using them everyday its a more performance oriented caliper but like any caliper you can use it on the street and they wont be to aggressive as long as you arent putting in track pads

What is your impression of this system? Have you had a chance to take it to the track yet?

There are no dust boots on the Trophy Race System. However the Trophy Sport System does come with dust boots.

No, no track testing on the M3, but will be track testing a very similar 335i kit. Performance should be on the same level or little better than the regular sport BBK.

Do the rotors rust after sitting for long periods? I had StopTech on my last car and loved the pedal feel and stopping power but, after sitting they'd always rust which, comes off once you drive but, the residue then goes on the wheels and, the parts where the pad doest make contact stay rusted.

So, do they rust and, is there a reason they can't make them not rust?

Yes, the race does not have provisions for brake piston dust boots and have quick release pins for the caliper bridge for quick pad changes.

I downloaded the template from the Stoptech website, and both the Sport and Trophy 380mm kits clear my 18" TE37s by 8mm, which is fine. They don't clear my 18" Bayern Mesh winter wheels though.

Does anyone know if they clear the 18" stock wheels?

i have an endless brake kit that is 370mm with a big 6 piston caliper and it wont fit on any 18's. haha. we've tried the rs, te37, re30, lm gt4. they all dont fit. some get onto the car, BUT the clearance is very close. not even enough space to slide a dollar bill through. i attached a pic of them. not a m3 but its a 19' rs on a 370mm disc with a big caliper. hope this helps.

I may have made a mistake, it does not clear the oem 18" wheels but will clear most aftermarket 18"

No, not really. You can find photos of the street BBK anywhere, just compare the two.

The Trophy system was designed with racing and performance in mind, not looks.
