You can have it with a V6 now if all you care about is straight line speed, but the 4 cyl is way more balanced
The TSX is slow. The 4 cylinder makes 201 hp and does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.
It's the V6 TSX that does 0-60 in 6 seconds.

For a girl...to go to work 200 hp seems like plenty

Obviously it's a matter of preference. For me the Honda shifter feels like a toy, it's just too light. For your average joe that may be a great thing because it's effortless, you can shift with your pinky if you want. I like to be able to feel the shifter engage the next gear. The BMW shifters are a nice balance, they're light but it does take at least some effort to shift and you can feel it engage. My STi with a aftermarket short shifter is rather extreme, it takes a lot of effort to shift and is very notchy.

Again, speed is a relative term. I have a 380whp STi, when I drove my sisters TSX it felt miserably slow to me.

Since we are talking about a car for someone else, sure that does not apply at all.

The effort in shifting a 3 Series, is most commonly described as "rubbery" and something she would surely not appreciate as she is used to an Si's brain surgery precise MT.

You made me look into it and she actually seems to have a Gallardo and 15 tickets at the last count.

I would try a Mini JCW - great fun and you can customize it like crazy.
If she doesn't like that, get her a Smart car and tell her to shut up.

Wow nobody's suggested a Mazda Miata yet? It's a peppy 2 seater car geared towards women and has just the right amount of trunk space for a young urban professional. Comes in stick, and choice of hardtop/softtop. Well equipped for under $40k.

If I was a girl I'd consider it.

I think a lot of it has to do with location. There are a LOT of people around here driving BMWs who can't afford them because it gives them status. Bimmerpost users are generally the exception, not the rule.

If they are driving BMW's how can they not afford it? Contradicting statement there lol.

Lol there's a big difference between 15-20% of your incoming going to your car payment and 80% of your income going to your car payment while your kids are eating ramen noodles

I would think a higher percentage of females drive the 3 series than the Miata.

If anything, the miata tends to be bought by driving enthusiasts.

You can easily lease a BMW for less than $400 a month (128i/328i). Someone making $10/hr full time earns about $1350 a month. If the person lives with their parents/extended family they don't need to pay for rent. They still have about $950(70% of the $1350) left over to do whatever.

+1

Miata's are one of the most popular cars for SCCA & track events.
