How many change oil between scheduled service
Just curious on what others think. I feel that waiting over 10,000 miles between oil changes is a bit long. I plan on doing an oil change at about 5,000 miles or 6 months. My last service was a year ago and my service car soon light came on this morning.
I feel for motors like the M3's it certainly can't hurt to change the oil more frequently, and I am concerned that the motor could potentially be damaged by excessive delays in changing the oil, especially when I frequently do one of my 170mph autobahn blasts. In my mind it can't hurt and can only help with engine longevity.

I did one after 8,000 on my 2008, and the blackstone report was pristine.

I do it every year to 14 months, with around 5K miles as well. I'd be okay with up to 7,500 miles, which is half the computer cycle, and perfectly fine IMO due to having 9.5L of oil in there (almost twice as much as most cars).
All the lab evidence I've seen with similar use as mine (infrequent use in very hot and cold weather, with short distances and high speeds on trips) points to perfectly safe OCI every 7.5K miles. But have seen several 8 to 10K-mile changes that weren't encouraging, hence the 7.5K limit for me. And yes, that's for folks who really care about their engines (lessees need not apply ). But it all depends how and where you drive. Good day folks. |

I change mine after every 4 track days, which usually equates to about every 5K miles.

I am planning on a 5k interval. Oil is cheap enough that there's no need to stretch it out.

The 2011 M3 Service and Warranty Information guide stipulates that the engine's oil should be changed "at least once a year." The point is made in bold print on page 6 of that guide.
