I dunno about you, but every time I drive on the autobahn, i don't really feel that everyone "knows the rules of the road." I can't remember how many times an idiot truck driver decides to cut in front of me when I'm going over 100mph on the left.

I should say that most Germans know the rules of the road on the Autobahn. Being close to Czech, one does see the occasional Eastern European truck driver that is rather clueless. Having driven a few times into Czech and Poland, the roads there are crap so perhaps they just never get the training as the traffic is forced to go slow.

For the most part, everyone knows that the left lane is for passing only.

There are jammers but actually you shouldn't be going that fast in a zone like that, I just had a talk with my oldest son who wanted me to bring him and his friend out last night and open it up, maybe sometimes on the expressway but no way on a regular street, I told him so but if he had this car I'm pretty sure he would have gone way over on the street, yep that's what the track is for.

Thank-you! With the commonly used instant-on radar,by the time your detector gives an alert, your speed has been measured and that's not just for laser but all the other bands cops use.

That is DEFINITELY not true for other bands. Radar detectors can alert you like a kilometer befor KA bands and the cops havent even seen your car to measure your speed!!!

No high horses from fellow posters and clearly no logic nor CONSTRUCTIVE opinions from you. OP has been advised to get a lawyer which I suspect he already knew he needed. Unfortunately he has also been told that he probably will lose his license. That sucks, but if it saves his, or someone else's life down the road, than it'll be worth it. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

And I'm sorry, but exceeding the speed limit by 40 MPH in a densely populated urban area takes work, and is asking for tragedy.

Lawyer up. Without a doubt. They can at least lower the points. Figure 350 for lawyer, 375 for ticket and hope for 4 points. Maybe 6. Keep it in court as long as possable so the lawyer can show that you have not had any problems since. Please dont get another ticket in this time frame. How is your driving record otherwise? Is the first moving violation you have received? Relax, with a good lawyer it should work out.

That's if there's a car in front of you that just got clocked and your radar detector gives you a warning based on the car in front of you.
If you're ahead of the pack and the officer shoots you first using a Ka band radar gun in INSTANT-ON mode, by the time you get a warning,He has already clocked your speed.

I wonder if you have ever attempted to immediately stop your M3 while at 120mph?

op - agree - get a lawyer and maybe he will save your license. If you play, then you pay.

Nobody here, unless they're a NY lawyer, can tell you what to expect in court or how to handle this. So, get an expert on you side. I cannot recommend a good lawyer for you, but I recommend you do hire one and go to court. Look for a lawyer that is familiar with the court that you'll be going to is about the best advice I can give you.

Cheers.

Nope! KA band is always on! At least for our cops. Instant-on is only used for Laser (again, at least in Canada, as far as I know)

I agree with the member who suggested that you track the car in the future. That is, if you don't get into any further trouble with your license/registration etc. Exceeding the limit by 41mph is dangerous for you and for others. Presumably, the 50mph road is not designed for 90mph speeds, so I'll assume that you are incredibly lucky to have not hurt yourself or others.

Hopefully you will get to keep your license. Also, hopefully, you will get nailed with max points on your license, and see an appreciable rise in your insurance rate. Unfortunately, those are the only factors that dissuade speeders from succumbing to the temptation.

Ah....no. 120 is too fast in any car. Constructive opinion? Don't do 120.

Jammers do work,we were talking about radar detectors not giving you ample warning in some cases where ka band radar guns are used in instant-on mode.( when the officer pulls the trigger on the stalker II to transmit instead of using the radar gun in continuous mode.)

Seemed like a pretty decent first post to me.
My only disagreement would be to say that I could care less if the OP loses his license. Fast driving on quiet empty country roads is one thing, 90mph in a 50mph urban area is just plain selfish as well as moronic.
It is a given that the more miles you drive the more likely it is that an unavoidable event will unfold in front of you and if that happens when you are doing >90mph in an urban area then its going to involve a lot a blood not all of which is likely to be yours.

After reading some comments on the post, I don't think there is enough knowledge about Passport 9500 ci. It combines a radar detector with a hidden, water proof, radar detector with a laser jammer called the Shifter ZR4 and radar camera alerts. It is 100% invisible to all police Radar Detector Detectors including RCMP and OPP Spectre RDD in Canada, VG2, VG3, Spectre ii, Spectre iii and Spectre iv+.

Here in Canada, cops are also equipped to detect if you have a radar detector and as far as I know this is the only one that goes undetected. Basically, you still need to slow down, however, you have more than a second because when the officer hits you first time, he won't get a correct reading allowing you to slow down and so on. I can vouch for this product because I have used for last year or so without any issues in Ontario, NY, NJ and New England.

Also, I want to mention that here in Ontario the limit is 100 km/h on a road (407 ETR) where everyone drives at 130 km/h and basically a cop picks on who to give the ticket. I have a friend who was going 140 km/h in a 90 km/h zone and the cop basically told him that he wasn't stopping anyone going over 40 km/h and under. At the end of the day, it really depends who you encounter.

At the end of the day, most of us know who funds the Cops with laser / radar detectors, otherwise, for most people, they would pay a fine and move on but in North America, you get punished for it for the next 3-5 years.
