Gallardo current and ex owners?

I'm contemplating on picking a first gen up by end of the year. My friend who has been persuading me tells me it's a really reliable and easy to maintain car. I been doing some research and it seems so but I also trust my friend. Any owners want to have some input? I will also be doing a stage 1 twin turbo kit on it once I get it. Thanks

Pretty sure stage 1 twin turbo would severly reduce that reliability you mentioned...

do you know or are you assuming? Everywhere I read it doesn't really put anymore stress on the car like superchargers on M3's. It's only 5-6psi so no it really doesn't severely reduce the reliability.

Just assuming. From an analysis stand point, more parts means more points of failure, therefore less reliable. That's the rule of thumb for any aftermarket forced induction kit. If you want to drop the cash to twin turbo a lambo, why not just use that money to go with a newer one? Doesn't the power output of gallardo's increase throughout the model years though i'm sure it's not anywhere near the power point of a twin turbo.

Ok well, sorry not to sound like an a**hole, but I want feedback of the car from a previous or current owner. I have done some research and my friend has the kit. The car can handle stage 1 easily without pretty much any extra stress. There have been high mileage of the car with the kit. I been modding for over a decade so I know the PC stuff you just said.

Not at all, I completely understand. I do have a buddy who was actually talking to me about the same exact idea. Getting an early gallardo and throwing a twin turbo on it. I'll see if he ever took the dive into the project and see what he says. Best of luck!

Have you driven one yet? I drove one for about 25-30 minutes in twisty mountain roads and while the sound is intoxicating, I really hated the overall driving experience. There's absolutely no leg room (and I'm short). You have to rest your left leg on the wheel well which means your knee is bent at 90 degrees while you drive. Rear visibility is practically non-existent. I felt like I was driving a uhaul truck in that regard. The gallardo is a beautiful car, but it's not a great car to drive at all. For the price I'd look into better driving cars, but that's just me. Not sure where they compare in price, but a F430 is like 30x better than the Gallardo to drive. The R8 V10 has a much better road feel too not to mention an interior that's way nicer. I feel like the only reason to buy a Gallardo is for the sound and attention you get driving one.

If you are going to spend money on a Gallardo, definitely test drive that car along with an F430 and R8 V10. You'll probably change your mind after.

I'm sort of short too and I drive pretty close to the steering wheel, well on a manual. I had a s2000, so I'm used to the lack of visibility. I haven't read up on the f430, but the one thing I like about the Gallardo is it's reliability. I am going to test drive a Gallardo soon as soon as the weather here clear up.

R8 V10 is a beautiful car though definitely, nice inside and out and reliable. My friend was looking at one, so I wanted to be a bit different from him. Also I'll still have my M3

Wow! A sensible man! It's so funny you say those things as I just drove both a F430 and a Gallardo this past weekend. I bolded a few key points that I whole-heartedly agree with. I wouldn't say I hated it, but I can say driving the F430 prior to the Gallardo made the Gallardo seem lame, even in comparison to my last m3! I also expected a lot more from the AWD. The sound is unmatched though. Loved it.

I wouldn't really consider the first gen Gallardo at this point, but they're fairly reliable cars. And if something breaks you can possibly get warrantied by whoever puts on your TT kit. What's the max you're willing to spend? There's a 2009 LP560 for $135k on Cars.com. A few more sub-$140k as well.

I'm not sure on the budget yet, but I said the 1st gen because with the money saved, it can go towards the TT kit, and a couple more mods. I'm getting a hook up on the TT, which is one of the reason why. I do like the face lift of the 2009+ but I could do the face lift conversion. However you might be right and I could save a little bit more to get 2009+. Let me look into that 09 LP560 though, maybe I'll just save my pennies a little bit more

Definitely can't go wrong with a UGR kit.

I'd definitely try and shoot for an 09 at least.

If you get a pre-face lift you'll have to invest in paintwork etc.. which will cost you.

Buddy of mine just bought a 13' G, rips it pretty hard, no issues. And i've spoken to a few other owners online as well, and they say it is perfect for DD. (If you don't mind the slight rawness of course)

nice congrats to your buddy. yup been hearing you can daily it and it's a car that's meant to be driven!

any reason why you suggest 09+? i'm still contemplating it and it's pretty much $40k difference. Besides the obvious face lift and the extra .2 liters

with $40k, I can do a bit with the car

I was shopping for a 2006 gallardo, price intervals change 5 digits on each incremental year and that seemed like the price break on the factory 500hp cars. I stopped looking when the techs there really recommended the 09 up as. Lots of improvements to the electronics and transmission.

Good luck on your build the turbo ones are just plain nuts. The V10 Lambos are great.

thank you Scott. Can you share the improvements the tech told you? I know the egear is much better, but I will be looking for a 6 speed

Direct injection, improved 4WD - I think it's full time like the GTR's vs on demand like before (don't quote me on this as it was confusing when this was explained to me since he talked about audi and vw systems in the same context) tweaks to the traction control, cooling system improvements (maybe from the bodywork?) and the car was modestly lighter. And yes, the improvements to the egear.
