For the oil to work properly it need to warm up first, so if you want your engine to last keep the RPM's down untill it has had time to warm up properly

Why did they remove the Body side moldings? Will they be an available Accessory in the near future as the dealers do not carry. (Hate those parking lot dings!!)

That you would have to ask the designers

Will a retrofit be available for bluetooth if you have i Drive and Nav, but no BMW Assist for Canadian cars.
Thanks

Please find out if Glazing will do any harm on a new E90's paint... for example a one week old E90.

I'm getting my car on Tuesday, and I want to glaze it on Saturday/Sunday. I just want an official word from BMW so that I can make an informed decision.

I read elsewhere in this forum that the detailing should not be a problem, but still I want to hear it officially.... Damaged paint will be heart breaking to me... I wanna be sure before I do something stupid.

What exatly do you mean by glazing?(please respond here, or my mailing me broken1@e90post.com) Auto-glazing is basically a glorified polish of your car, so I wouldn't suggest that in the first few weeks. If there's something else that could be good/protect my saphire black beauty...that would be awesome!!

Maybe us South African's should organise a meet....Autobavaria midrand is a central spot?

E90Fleet -> ask the factory why the hell I can't buy a prepainted saphire black BMW OEM spoiler??!!! Apparently, in south africa they only come primed :-/

I have been told before by BMW that the paint is 100% cured due to their special infrared baking of the pain after it is applied in the factory

But I will make shure and ask the paint techs when we are in the paint shop just to confirm it again

Our dealers only get parts from germany, not from our factory, and germany wont ship pre-painted parts to far destinations due to the probablility for damage

I'm referring to the "polish" they use to protect paint. Their marketing material says it forms a glass-like layer over paint. They say it protects your paint, and lasts up to 6 months. I want it because like you, I'm also getting a Sapphire Black which is a pain to look after, in terms of swirls and minor scratches. Whether this stuff works is another issue.... well, i will find out soon I'm sure.

Anyway, to test this glazing stuff, I took my E46 there(Engen garage near Menlyn Park mall) on Saturday. There was no way I would test on the E90 hahaha!! They applied the first coat which took care of the minor scratches I collected from people's trolleys etc... I was impressed with that.

The last layer was for the glass effect.... it's really shiny and I like it... but unfortunately I took this test too late... I'm trading in my E46 on Tuesday.... ah well, I just wanted to see the effect. I will definitely put it on my E90 over the weekend.... i need all the help I can get to protect the Sapphire Black paint.

Unfortunately I didn't take down the name of the product because I don't plan on using that stuff myself... it's too time consuming. Two guys were working on my car, and it took them almost two hours.

It is a great idea to meet in Midrand...I support that idea. That will provide a chance to see all the different configurations in options, especially the colour combos..... because in real life, things look a lot different, and more interesting.

Cool :-) Well let me know how the glazing goes, I would be interested if it can protect my paint work...back to factory questions...

How thoroughly are cars checked when they leave the assembly line? A road test? Just a basic electronics test? Do they even put the car in reverse and get someone to stand behind it (to check PDC is plugged in correctly)

And can I get my own DIS machine... ;-)

The DIS is old and was VERY expensive

The laptoplike GT1 is the latest
You can buy one from Siemens for about $45,000 without software
But BMW wont sell their softwae to you

OK, if they DON'T put anything extra in with the oil, is there some sort of treatment of the engine parts before assembly? Electrostatic? Bead blasting? Dip? Conformal coating? Hand job?
