They must have told you this before they started messing with a tune on my Akra'ed car.

So one is basically looking at around $3K for a tune and these X-Pipes. I wonder if there would be more gains with a rear muffler. The gains would have been nice had they been just from the X-Pipe alone but now it looks like the gains are from the Pipe and ECU tune so it does not look like too much in terms of power gains. Gains are ok but when you see that you got the gains from the ECU tune and exhaust things look different. My $.02..

I got the scoop on this new performance part.

The pipe will be approx 8 feet in length. (1-piece)

It will completely eliminate all four cats, and replace them with 4 high flow resonators. After building a 2 resonator prototype, and a NO resonator prototype, DINAN has decided to only offer one configuration for the E9x M3. They feel the other variants are just too loud.

The X-pipe will be built using 2.75" thin-wall 304 stainless steel exhaust tubing, and it will use four 3.50" stainless steel straight-through designed resonators. These resonators have no baffles or restrictions in the center. They have a layer of ceramic sound deadening material packed with on the outer edge to reduce drone at low rpms.

So in essence, this is basically straight-pipe with little to no restriction to the exhaust gas flow as it passes through this nearly 8-foot section of exhaust pipe.

When it's listed on Dinan's site later this week, the price will be $2200.

In regards to the performance of this X-pipe...

Dinan is claiming 23 HP & 21 lb/ft. TRQ for this X-pipe...but there's a catch.

You have to buy the Dinan performance exhaust tuning software upfront. Dinan tweaked the software coding to maximize the gains of this specific X-pipe.

Within the code of this dyno tuned performance software, a provision to turn off the SES light has been made. (this SES light will pop up because you no longer have cats) Price: $799

In other words...no software, no X-pipe...

So if you get this 'combo', you will need to come up with $3k upfront.

Seems like it will be a really trick exhaust piece, and I have been told it's going to be LOUD.
thanks for the info

I had, but I think I'll try this option first. Since of the leaks I've heard with Fabspeed, I want to see how the Dinan goes..I got a feeling it requires cutting which I do not want. If it does, I'll go back to getting Fabspeed..

Decide which you wanted? I'd love to hear sound clips of your car too!

You still get a hp bump from the software, something like 8 max and 6 peak, so for $3000.00 you should realize a little over 30hp.....and the high flow mufflers would give you another 5 or 6.

I already have the software onboard along with the mufflers, it drastically changed the feel of the car, much more driveable...

The Dinan midpipe is strictly a bolt in proposition...no cutting required

Agreed - although Akrapovic only claim a 3HP increase for the catback portion of the exhaust - so negligible compared to the other portion of the exhaust

LOL.. And I thought it was just the Akrapovic exhaust that had a dip problem. So we pay for a tune that petty much just keeps the CEL off.

Except for one little dip between 6600-7200 rpm, power gains are over 20 hp from 5000 rpm to redline.

+1 - and requires "racing" software at an additional $999 - there is no power/torque increase difference between racing software and standard software - so an extra $200 to remove the CEL codes...

That's disappointing. The E46 ZHP came with a similar dip at about 75% of max rpms, and it was so annoying that I actually preferred it after they updated the software to detune the entire powerband to match the dip.

Also, enjoy transferring the pipes back and forth every time you need to pass inspection. Still, I'm curious to hear how it sounds with the four resonators.

The X-pipe performance software is actually $799 not $999 right now due to introductory pricing. (it's not listed on the site, but that's the deal)

Note: This dyno tuned software file was specifically designed to extract the maximum HP & TRQ out of this new X-pipe. The numbers I posted earlier 23HP & 21 lb/ft TRQ are with the X-pipe software flash.

That's PEAK crank power of course. (not rwhp)

I was also told that by adding the adding the Dinan high-flowing rear mufflers will get you closer to 28 HP and 26 lb/ft. TRQ. (again, PEAK crank power)

The X-pipe is also not $2300 as is says on the site. It's $2200, again Introductory pricing for a limited time...

It's something but I honestly feel that for $3K (Take or give) the gains are weak not to mention them selling you a $799 performance software with a glitch in it (That is the dip that they were unable to resolve which is from their own X-Pipe). BMW usually blames failures on other mods and some tuners blame failures on other mods from other manufacturers but I wonder how Dinan feels about releasing their own X-Pipe with their own software that creates a dip and sells you a software that does not resolve this dip or glitch

I had a pretty big dip on my older E46 ZHP. When it was stock it was hard to notice but after the car was modified it was easy to notice. BMW denied that there was a problem with their car and ECU and blamed the dip on my Supercharger. AJ from ESS tried hard to fix this dip but was only able to smoothen it out a bit.

I know, it was bad and it really annoyed me back then.

From their site, Dinan’s standard matching new car warranty coverage does not apply to racing components. Requires Dinan Racing software.

Huh..doesn't cover warranty? Hm..

Yep, you just get the standard 2 year Dinan warranty, not the BMW-matching warranty.

That kinda sucks. I called my local dealer to and left him a voicemail to get a price estimate regardless..I'll keep everyone updated if I buy them
