You could call it OCD. I practically know where every bump and pothole is around the entire city.

I'll even pre-run a favorite route in another car if I haven't been on it in a while. That's OCD.

BTW, if you want to feel what the real potholes are you need to get to countries like Russia, or Ukraine. When you drive there you do not avoid potholes. You just can't. You try to avoid bigger ones. If you can. In 2000-2004 my friend could shift to 4th in his Honda Prelude just on 2 roads the city. And usually he would make just about 15 MPH in most places. It gets better, but not that fast. For example, and here and here . Sorry for Russian.
Can't imagine driving my baby there. |

As long as I am not endangering traffic around me, I'm pretty serious about it. I've ran over potholes and road debris in the Prius that has seriously ruined its front end (thankfully I haven't encountered such issues in my M3) but sometimes it's a choice between whether to eat $#!% or hit another car and eat $#!% together.

My friend rides a Ducati, and we were comparing how carefully one rides a bike vs. a car. I drive this car more carefully than any I've ever owned. He said, "yeah, just like a bike, you've got to watch for potholes and assholes."

I am OCD and live in NJ/NY area, so I do everything I can to avoid potholes. Including NOT letting my girlfriend to ever drive my E90. Why? Because when we are in her car and she's driving, when a pothole comes up I swear I can hear her mumble "Give me ramming speed Scotty!"

Go back and re-read your 1st post again and tell me you don't sound like an asshole? Relax guy, its just a car. Use all that attention you put into avoiding potholes and try to get laid instead. |

I'm in the Seattle area and the roads are terrible, like some have mentioned. I am pretty careful, but I don't obsess over it. No bent rims or any tragic issues yet. Now that I said that, I am probably going to get a flat going home.

Funny story a few months back i was driving the m and there is a section on the local road where the right lane has nothing but consecutive pot holes man hole covers and the road is uneven. while the left lane is smooth. So being paranoid I went in the other lane no oncoming traffic and went back into my lane. Avoided a few more pot holes further down. Well I look in my rear and there is a cop with his lights on behind me. I pull over; cop comes ask for my papers and walks away. Comes back and gives me a ticket for unclear license plates because I have a frame around it even though i don't have front plate on as well. Then proceeds to ask me what I was doing back there, told him the truth he then tells me what do you think is more important a life or or your rims think about it and walked away. All I did is take my papers my tickets said thank you and drove away. Now I understand what he is saying but like I said there was a not a single car on the other side of the road. If there was I would have just slowed down and taken the potholes at a very minimal speed 5-10 mph.
Now back to question very anal about pot holes |

Not careful at all. I enjoy paying for new rims every week.
