I think if you hit the Armco at the ring, you have to pay. I know German liability rules are different...could end up being an expensive insurance bill.

Germany is not a litigious country like the USA and the UK. I don't think the ring taxi rides will be affected, but the driver will likely be out of a job and get a hefty fine. The accident occurred in a 50 km/h section set-up because of some armco work.

What I did mean is that BMW might pull this taxi service since at times driving on the ring becomes almost impossible. I've driven the ring and I know first hand. PS: David, when I look at the first picture in post #1 it looks like the ///M car was last to arrive (based upon the skid marks) He tried to avoid contact then ended up against the guard rail. What do you make of it? Note the skid marks leading to the ditch and guard rail in the direction of the ///M car (you may have to enlarge the picture to see it).

130i in SP5. we did well despite being way underpowered for our class. 5th in class. lots of crashes even in qualifying. can't win if you don't finish.

the ring was closed every 2 hours on saturday from accidents. it looks like it was more frequent on sunday with the closures. the cars lined up to enter the track backed all the way to the castle on sunday. i have never seen it that crowded. the laps were also predictably frustrating. too many large clusters of cars to get around which cause half the lap to be spent going very slow.

Don't understand why or how cars up front figured out to slow down but the driver of the video failed to noticed the upcoming construction zone.

It was pretty busy on Saturday also. Maybe it was because of the weather Germany had excellent weather this past week. I just came back from my ED trip and I was sunny everyday. Didn't rain one day on my trip. Too bad I didn't ride the ring. Tell you the truth I was not comfortable riding the ring when it was so crowded. Think best time is early in the morning when it opens.

I also saw this on bridgetogantry.com - here is what they had to say... Getting the facts straight. *The Corvette was NOT a rental *The Ring Taxi was NOT driven by Sabine (she hasn't worked for the 'Ring Taxi since it changed management this Spring) *This accident was simply the result of placing a massive slow sign close to the racing line, in a blind spot on one of the fastest bends on the whole track. The roadworks zone WAS signposted on the massive illuminated board after the gates, with the whole of Kesselchen flashing as a caution zone. But with no english translation, and no briefing to even draw attention to this sign, it is largely ignored. Even by Nürburgring employees driving Ring Taxis! There are only two solutions to this that I see; a speed limit on the whole track during TF OR a better flagging system or other warning system (i.e. upper management treat the guys on the nordschleife zufahrt better please, spend some of your millions down there instead of at the f*cking ring-werk - we need more flag marshalls and more warning lights please) http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...&Itemid=300088 |

Damn Dackel, those video's are shocking, what were they thinking?
To signpost a construction zone like this on a public road would be criminal, let alone on a public road that happens to be the Nordschleife. Very lucky that nobody got killed. I just don't get it. Every year dozens of road construction workers get killed at road construction sites. Even if speed restrictions are in place those guys get hit by speeding or distracted motorists all the time. Why don't they do their job when the track is closed, like at night?

How much did you wager because you lost. I saw the video, vette came to a complete stop for 5-10s then the ring taxi (BMW) came and plowed into a stopped vehicle....

I just read the Polizei report and the ring-taxi seemed to collide with the car in front. All were speeding, but it is understandable since this is such a high-speed section of the circuit (I have spent a great many laps with my foot flat in this section). With such little warning, and a hoard of rubber neckers looking at the accident, it's no wonder there wasn't more damage. Oh well... I'm sure there will be some sort of change coming.

I've driven these bends right after Bergwerk hundreds of times, and it's a zone where you can really go fast. To place that construction zone there at all during TF is amazingly stupid; to do it the way it was done was unimaginably dumb. If it really had to be done there and then, this should have been signposted at least at Bergwerk, with 70 and then 50 km/h signs until the construction site. On a sidenote, at the exact same place a Corvette crashed right in front of me three weeks ago, when the driver thought it was a good idea to go WOT in the last bend while it was partly slippery.
