1m vs m3 (not in a race, but in pricing and other areas)

there is a 335 mile used 1m in valencia orange on the lot near me. I called and asked why its used already with only 335 miles and they said "customer who bought it buys many cars a year from us and just wanted to try it out, he has moved on to a new vehicle"

i then asked what they were looking for on the car and they stated "$69,500 - it is an extremely rare vehicle and we are $15k over sticker which is reasonable given the low mileage and brief use"

I understand those who had to be put on a waiting list for one paying over msrp - does anyone else think this is a... lofty goal to say the least in their pricing? My thoughts were if it was as desired as they say it would have sold within 24 hours of posting. My gut feeling is they will sit on this car a while.

as far as amenities - it does offer all the same interior stuff as our m3... has the bmw apps feature for my iphone... has premium sound, all options basically. I just feel like for all the same things why would one go with the 1m over the m3? size factor? like driving a go kart as opposed to a car? is it the exclusivity that comes with the 1m ownership?

i dunno... someone give me some feedback what they feel an advantage to the 1m would be and also what they think of that price.

he didnt like that last part and hung up.

As hot as the 1M is, that dealer will find a buyer to pay 60-65k for it, the M3 sitting next to it is priced at 75-80k. It's a very straight forward bargain and sale.

It's business, the 1M will sell to somebody else, somebody who is willing to pay the premium because it's so rare and such an AMAZING package.

With all 'hot' cars, you are going to pay for it. Best case scenario is try to order a new one and avoid this madness...and who knows maybe the other owner found something in the 1M they didn't like...maybe you don't want to find that either...

Until the next best thing hits, you are in a bind. Here's hoping the 1M isn't the next supra ...just kidding.

My friend you make me proud in telling a dealer off like that, I hate it when they think they have gold sitting on there lot and want to screw everyone with pricing. That is way overpriced, I just bought my new m3 for 65k which was originally 71K, it was the last 2011 e92 and wanted to get rid of it I guess for 2012 to come in but go for the m3, you know you want to

yeah seriously, that car should be priced at a slight discount to MSRP, maybe MSRP, and maybe at a "time or waiting time premium", but they're saying someone is willing to put $15k extra down today just to drive it out today? I'd like to meet this guy and

I was lucky enough to even get an allocation in CA. I am OK with the MSRP deal I got(+floor mats, key chain, shirt etc.), but the car is ultimately worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

m3 i have no problem justifying the 70k sticker on. I got a decent price on my CPO 2009 e90... $55,900 with only 3k miles on it cpo until 5/2015. the person who owned before me was a similar scenario that just flips through cars quickly. Why would one ever pay 70k for a lesser vehicle when like shift@red mentioned, it likely will drop to much lower pricing.

and NINE - not sure why you are having to pay 75-80k for an m3 unless you are including tax/title transfer. my 09 was 61k out the door with everything. (we have a terrible 9% sales tax but the GM at my dealer is a friend of mine and gave me a higher trade in value than their sister dealership down by my office so trading it was a benefit vs private sale considering the higher trade value he offered me along with the tax break only being on the difference of trade in and sale price of the m3).

Easy, just saw one just like this recently. DCT, premium, HK sound, ZCP, etc. Not even maxed out with options. $76.5k+tax/fees.

Nope. I'm an engineer/physicist, but you don't have to be Aristotle to understand this simple concept. Why some people get so outraged because there might be someone willing to pay $10k over MSRP is beyond me. I own some extremely rare coins that you might think are ridiculously price, but there is someone who is willing to pay, and he is the one who sets the 'market' price. Sometimes we need to be reminded that the world does not revolve around 'ourselves'.

listed at $76,075 and willing to come down to lower than mid 70s on this one. Looks to be more loaded than most.

to be very clear - not outraged by the price whatsoever. just unwilling to consider that particular vehicle when priced at 70k when I can get a better vehicle ((m3)in my opinion) for the same price.

If someone wishes to pay more for the car to say they have it - more power to them.

You don't have to be a realist to understand this simple concept. Why some people get so outraged because there might be someone unwilling to pay $10k over MSRP is beyond me.

when you get your 1m, post up some pics - what color did you go with?

From the pictures, with Prm Pkg, Conv Pkg, HK sound, 2tone Fox, the CF spliters, CF Mirrors, CF Spoiler, DCT, a $4,374 Perf Exhaust and are those BBS CH wheels? Something just isn't adding up. This car should be pushing $80k new as is. Is it used? It's not on Chapmans website.

Either way. A dealer will gladly sell a car for $75k after they have bloated the price close to $80 for an M3. If I am spending $80k I think I am more likely to be looking a P-car.

If I only had the 2 cars to choose from and both were $70K, of course I would choose the M3. But to be honest I would'nt pay $70k+ for an M3 either.

What color? Well, we only get 3 choices, I picked AW. Would never get black again. Love the VO but I don't like that kind of attention and I might get tired of it quick.

EDIT:
*BTW, I paid $54K+taxes/fees for my new 2008 E90M3 at launch with Premium, SAT, iPod, BMW Connect w/BlueTooth.

I told my cousin in CA to look at this car. We have family in AZ and he could pick it up and drive it back. I told him it had an individual 2tone interior, BMW perform exhaust, all the OEM CF parts, BMW perform wheels(black), fully loaded and the dealer is willing to part with it for "mid to low $70K" according to a forum member(post#13). I was totally wrong when I said that car has to be pushing $80k! Anyways, he called and the car is $87,750! It also has ~3,000 miles as it is a demo car as well. They were willing to start pulling some of the part off to reduce the price. But not a 'great' deal anyway you look at it.

So as usual, there is always more to the story.

Hmm

That's def a bit strange they can advertise on the site one thing and be expecting to sell for an entirely different and 11k difference.

I'll talk with them about it today or tomorrow when I go to pick up my car from service. If they give me a different set of numbers I'll let u know man. Sorry about the confusion!

My E92 M3 is literally fully loaded (even auto high beams and rear shade) and I paid right under 70k (under MSRP). And that's including my CF mirror caps and rear spoiler. I love the 1M Coupe, but would not pay over MSRP for one. It's a great deal at its market value. Otherwise there are better cars to be had.

That dealer has no rational thought. No one would buy a used 1M for $15k over sticker of a new one, there's some still on sale in dealerships. Watch, after a month they'll drop to $54k.

Well put, no it does not. "Value" is an elusive ideal.

Now that the performance kit is available for $550 and essentially turns any 35i into a 35is power-wise, I'd just pick up a 2012 135i with that kit and add the M stuff later. I mean, if cost is a factor here. Otherwise it's M3 no question.
