RPi Ram Intake Scoops with Dyno. [14 whp]

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with RPi... www.raceprecision.com if you aren't yet.. you will be soon.

I learned about RPi when I had my m5, I met the brains of the operation, Eloy. He makes affordable products for your car and they are ALL dyno proven for power/horsepower. closed hood, dyno dynamics machine. the real deal.

He told me to come in and make some scoops for the e90/e92 m3. The 335 scoops work fine on the car but I wanted some more power out of it. So I hung out with Eloy on Saturday and he made one but hes going to work on it some more to get more power out of it..

Check out the Dyno..

.003 Run = Stock
.008 Run = RPI Scoops

The 14whp gain was done on my completely bone stock E92. The ram air kit is in the works. Expect a retail price is $129.

This is nothing, Eloy is going to come up with more ideas for the e90/e92 M3. If you guys do not believe it, we will turn you into a believer.

Here are some pictures, I'll have more dyno sheets and a update next week.

Let me know what you think, questions/comments concerns.

- Josh

I dont understand how the dyno is simulating a ram air effect... this is usually hard to replicate with just a fan....

I'm wondering about the ram effect, given that the airbox has three separate entrypoints. Air forced into the box because of the scoops does not necessarily get forced through the filter into the engine.

Pretty easy actually..

this is the m5 motor.. but its similar to the m3 setup.

the faster you go, the more air goes inside your intake box.. more hp also

Ya what speed is the fan simulating the car traveling at? I guess this kinda proves that it works.

True. 14whp is like almost 4% power increase. What is the margin of error on the dyno from run to run? 4%? Haha ... hopefully not.

We have a dyno day for the M5s on the 25th. If any of you have a stock m3 and want to do some real world runs with a stock m3+our ram air, come on by.

I bet a significant portion of the increase, if an increase can indeed be achieved by a strong fan pointed at a stationary car, is actually due to the front facing intake on the bumper. Next time, place a plywood panel in front of the intake in the bumper so that it is free to breathe, but cannot benefit from the fan, and then we'll see...

I'll bet you didn't use the vortexvalve savings calculator. Even using the most conservative values, it clearly shows the savings to YOU! the consumer if you purchase and utilize this fine device. If RPI were to also utilize something like the "savings calculator", more likely the "horsepower calculator" we'd all see the advantages of purchasing and installing that fine device.

Are there any independent dyno? I looked through as many pages as I could stand.

i don't own an m3 but it's the same principal for my car's application. my only concern - if its more of a direct shot for air to enter, when raining can water be sucked in??? if so, this couldn't be good for internals
