I say DO WHAT YOU WANT, you have a good job, you don't seem to be afraid to work and you have no rent to pay, why not enjoy a bit of that money you work for, until you make more after collage! The way I see it, even after doing all the payments relative to the car, you'll still have more money to live with then most students of your age, also, we only live once, so if you're a car guy then please yourself!
Anyway, the M3 is a very reliable car(but still an expensive one), I've had my 08 for +3years/40k miles and only change an O2 censor, and the S5 has a warranty, so you should buy the one you prefer! Personnaly I'd go with the M3, much more fun car and IMO will hold it's value better! |

Don't take advice from people who learned how to spell censor at collage.

If you have to justify the cost of owning a car and talk about MPGs and such, then i would suggest not looking at these types of cars for now. Wait till you're out of school, and buy an M3 (cpo) as a gift to yourself after working at your first job for 1 year.
I made the mistake of buying a new rsx s when I was in university (35k cad tax in 2002) and looking back it was a bad idea, but I did enjoy it, so enjoy your G for a few more years. |

I'm probably going to pass on the m3 simply because it would be closer to $40k and while that would be the best choice, it is a big loan to take out. I'm probably going with an s5 because I could get one closer to 30. There's also an a5 s-line with the 3.2 L v6 that I'm looking at. Similar performance to my g, maybe a hair slower, but a better better overall package, including mpg. I'm pretty dead set on the s5 though. I'm putting between $10,000-$15,000 down so the loan really won't be that big, I could work part time hours and have that knocked out easy in 2 years or a bit less. I can get really far ahead on payments during summer and work a lot since I'm not taking any classes, but I still have a lot of free time and time for fun. And during the school year I work maybe 3 days a week but I should be able to pay $1000 a month still. I still can have spring break and vacations and stuff. The s5 also gets very similar mpg to my G. 16 and 24 estimated for the s5 vs 18 and 24 estimated for the G. I just don't want to be stuck with a G37 with 140k miles in a few years that I can maybe get $10k for. If I sell now I can get the maximum value of the car. The s5 will depreciate also, but I feel the s5 will preserve its value pretty well, especially the v8 4.2 since they only have the supercharged v6 for the s5 now. I probably wouldn't think of selling the Audi till it creeps up to 100k mikes and if I get a low milage one, this could be my car for the next 6-7 years

So an update on what I ended up doing. I found a pre owned 2009 s5 for a steal of a deal and got that. Fully loaded with audi drive select, audi side assist, nav, keyless entry, and wood grain trim. It's color is phantom black pearl which is considered a special color by audi and cost an extra $750 on the original sticker price. It has 55k miles and I got it for $28,000. the private party kbb was $33,500 and fair market range was between 35 and 39. It also just had all it's major 55k maintenance just done by the previous owner at the audi dealership a few months ago, along with a fresh set of tires. The loan I took on was a little over 20k, which is the exact amount I took out a year ago for the Infiniti. I had that loan 75% paid off and was on pace to pay it off by December of this year, so I should have the audi paid off in a little over a year.

Dude just don't do it. It is not worth it. You really need to be able to drive this car without giving a S*#T about the maintenance/ gas costs etc. to REALLY enjoy it. just my 2 cents
Edit: just saw your last post. Well, I hope you enjoy it |
