Dedicated Track Car. Oil Report

Car is a totally dedicated track car now. I was curious. Nothing else. No bearing phobia etc...
I change the oil every 5 full days, and as you see this time was a total of 700 miles between changes including balls-out NASA TT speeds. Car has 29K on it which includes about 70-80 track days.
Pretty happy with report, conclusion and advise. I plan to stick to every 5-7 days between changes (no more than 1000 miles of track only).
(Titanium is high, I guess due to Akra GT4 traces)...

Hope this helps for those that track regularly.
Cheers.

Thanks for posting. It's good to see that the tws holds up to track use. Do you happen to know what your sustained oil temps are when on track?

This is excellent. My S54 powered Z4M Coupe that's been tracked for the almost 6 years I have had the car and Blackstone'd since new does not like rod bearings as much. My first high lead reading was at 26K miles though and clean until then.

I change my oil every 4-6 full track days regardless of mileage in between. By 60K miles and over 40 track days, about 15 passes down the Texas Mile, a little bit of 1/4 mile racing the lead numbers were progressively going up so I changed out the bearings.

Now the car is at ~81K miles and an additional 37-38 track days (somewhat harder days as I have been getting better at pushing the car and improving on personal best times at every track) lead number went up on one report and then jumped on the last one. So its rod bearing time again before Watkins Glen on Monday.

Maybe I should swap an S65 into my car

It would be great if you Blackstone'd you next 3 or 4 oil changes as you are rightat the mileage where things should be all "settled in".

Did they know from your notes or some other means that you track/run engine hard? Or did they deduce it 100% from metals in oil and your stated oil mileage?

I've just collected a sample of my liqui moly 10w60 after oil change. Had about 4000 miles on it and 2 track weekends. Will see what Blackstone says. Ill post my report too once it comes in.

Interestingly, they figured it out.I did mention the 700 miles were all track miles.

Not entirely. if you look at other Blackstone reports that have high Ti they often reference Ti components that can create increased trace. Given any back exhaust via the port into the camber, then picked up and reading in the oil might be where they are coming from with rings scraping the barrel? Nothing to lose sleep over.....

I didn't know you were waiting ~5 days to change the oil but very glad the numbers look good. I (AR Autoservice) change the oil at 1-3 full days in the E46 M3.

Oil temps: It would be very difficult to get reliable numbers with the OEM sensors and gauges. Ideally one would have something like a AiM dash and appropriate aftermarket sensors to data log.

i was thinking the same as mark here about every 4-6 days was my plan. had oil loss due to that freeze plug so will be waiting again to do blackstone until next oil change, since diluted some with new oil.

Why does yours say S54 when you have a E90 M3? Is the analysis incorrectly comparing to the S54 averages rather than the S65's?

And get extended warranty before your factory warranty runs out!!

+1. Anybody who tracks regularly and plans to keep the car should go this route. I took extended 2 months before mine ran out last month. $4k or so (versus $23k for a blown motor)...I spend more than that on tires in a season.

My problem with extended warranty is that I have zero faith they would cover an engine failure. From various anecdotal accounts and ripoff reports online, seems like a company would weasel out of 24K repair. Especially if they got a whiff of the fact that car was tracked. Plus at $3500-$5500 range (depending on quote/company), it's a pretty serious bet.

Do we know anyone who actually had a multi-thousand dollar bill covered by extended warranty company on a tracked car?

ive had the same fear and didnt choose to extend my e90 when the time came. i do have extended warranty on my x5 and every time something breaks its conviniently every other part that is covered but what broke.

I'd stick with the extended warranty from the BMW dealership and ask the specific question about engine failures. I'd just say that you are aware that rod bearings are a sporadic issue with the S65 engine and that you want to make sure that the warranty will cover damage due to a rod bearing failure under NORMAL use.
