Is that a "serious" comment?

are you "serious" ... have you been in a GTR... the reason for this thread is when I went for a spin in a GTR.... it completely bowled me over ... it took me weeks to get over the GTR craze and learn to re-love my M3..

FYI they have a black on black 2009 GTR at Park place with 14K miles on it! I've tried not to like them as I said before but after seeing the amazing performance of this car on the track, entering turn 1 at 170 I was blown away.

I plan to stay as far away from a GTR as possible .. otherwise I'll get sucked into the GTR vortex again..

Lol, yes it is a serious comment. It's fast as hell but doesn't sound that good and it's not a car you can play around with; I like having the tail end spin out a bit on turns, etc. But don't get me wrong, I still ogle the GT-R when it passes by me on the street.

Yep beware. Guy at the track had a cobb tuned 2009 putting down 630 hp that was a low 10 second car. Got kicked off the drag strip for being too fast. Needs full cage to go under 10.5 by NHRA rules.

Yeah the 458 is amazing. It's also >2.5 (287k price as tested) times the price of GTR. If Nissan put another 200k into the GTR the story might be different. 200k can add a lot of "refinement." If you read the review of the 458, that's what they seemed to like most about it compared to the GTR. In fact, in comparing it to the GTR they stated "point being, a tenth here and a tick there, sure, but the two cars perform in virtually the same manner."

GTR was number two...not bad for a Nissan.

Anyway, the OP was in the market for a GTR, not an F car.

Actually quicker than 11.5 requires a roll bar for NHRA. Some tracks will 'look the other way' to about 10.99 and a fire jacket.

Peace,
Dave

11.5 is for roll bar, 10.5 is full cage.

Just because people may want refinement in their cars, doesn't mean they are "badge fanatics". It's only that cars that have both performance and refinement wear prestigious badges. In fact, the reason they became prestigious badges is precisely because they do give you both.

I have never questioned the purpose or the capabilities of the GTR. I am just looking for more from a car. I want the performance AND the style and refinement. Maybe I will have to give up a little of each to get the best combination of both.

The biggest turn off for me is still the exterior design. Ironically, I think many of Nissan's other offerings are very nicely styled. Especially the 370Z. I absolutely love the styling of the 370Z. I actually owned a 350Z a number of years back and was really looking forward to the debut of the GTR, but when I saw it, I simply said, "No freakin' way!!"

It is not like 458 is costing 287k to Ferrari, right. They're selling at that price, because they can. Also, GTR has the AWD and turbo setup to be this fast. Achieving this with RWD and NA setup is much harder.

I agree, but I think their cost is probably at least 180-200k with such a low volume car. That's a lot more $$ to put into the refinement category. Yes, the 458 is amazing. It's light weight and rear mid-engine high rev. 4.5L V8 are key factors in it's performance.

Looks are subjective. Lots of people love the way it looks. I love it. It's styling is certainly not conventional. If you hate the way it looks, I can understand why you wouldn't want one.

I don't think the GTR is all that unrefined. A porsche GT3 is more crude/less refined. It certainly doesn't have the same level of luxury the Vantage you were referring to in the earlier post, but then again the Vantage doesn't have near the performance. It's a luxo sport cruiser-different category. That doesn't do much for me. Don't get me wrong, I care about a balance of performance and styling/refinement. If I didn't like the way it looked, I wouldn't buy it. However, performance comes first in my book.

I don't know... They have the Formula 1 advantage. They develop a lot of technology there, and then scale it down to their road cars.. So their R&D costs/returns are different then let's say Nissan.
