Split fold-down-rear seat now an option?

On my 08 M3, folding rear seats were a standard feature. Now on BMW's site, it lists them as a $475 option. I'm confused; did they remove them as a standard feature?

Perhaps heading down the same path as the E90 M3, charging to have folding rear seats. Always thought they should be standard!

I believe they were standard on the E92 but an option on the E90. On my 09 E90, it was an option.

Correct. They are standard on the E92, and are optional on the E90, available separately, or as a part of the Cold Weather Package.

Yep. I got it as an option since I didn't go with the cold weather package. I hate those headlight washers so I got seat heaters and split folding rear seats as stand-alone options.

Are you certain that BMW's site lists the fold down seats as an option on the coupe? I suspect that what you read was probably referring to the sedan.

Can you post a link to the page or at least describe more specifically where you read this information?

I doubt they'd make them optional on the coupe so late in the game because it would require some structural changes and re-development of the rear seats. It wouldn't be much of a cost cutting measure.

'10 e92 no cold weather package. I'm pretty sure mine don't fold, just that weird passthrough thing.

Go look again. The release levers for the split rear seat is in the trunk. This is standard on the E92 M3 whether the car has the cold weather pkg or not.

I could be wrong, but if I am not mistaken they are in fact optional on the 3 series coupe in some markets. So they have already engineered the platform to handle it, and they have the major parts they need to do it.

That said, yes, I am extremely skeptical that they've made fold downs optional in the coupe.

They're listed as standard equipment on the 2011 e92
