Best regards, south
It's the same link that footie posted and i just quoted the article. I'm just saying they base it on the % loss of the 330i dyno run and calculated or estimated the 335i run with those results. I'm not necessarily agreeing with it, but it is known for most cars to lose between 15% to 20% powertrain hp when testing on a dyno.

The S4 suffering the same, now that is confusing as it's engine is all but the same as the S5 and being both N/A 4.2v8 I can't understand why you are feeling a delay between pressing the throttle and the car taking off, that's a really funny one that.
The Q7 was a 4.2 but both the S4 and the Q7 are automatic in auto mode. I am not sure if this is a transmission issue but I expected power surge without downshift since they are v8s.

335i owner here. I've been following the dyno stuff for a long time on e90post.com. I belive the consensus is a 12-13% drivetrain loss for the manual transmission cars and 15% for the automatics.

Benchmarks may be a better comparision since dynos will vary based upon so many factors (weather conditions, what type of dyno it is, the fuel used, etc). Multiple magazines have had the 335i trap at 103-105 MPH, about 1 MPH slower than the 150 lb lighter E46 M3 with 333 HP. Most believe a stock 335i makes somewhere between 320 and 340 HP.

The easy tunability, huge powerband (1400 RPM to 6200 RPM), smoothness, efficiency, and great sound of this inline six make it well deserving of the 2007 Engine of the Year Award it recently won.

The automatic thing might explain it, you have to remember that these cars are awd and transmission slackness is to be expected, but I must say that I have tested both the Q7 4.2FSi and was loaned a A6 3.2FSi which was an auto while my S5 was in the shop and never experienced any of the above, so I can't explain it at all.

My own impressions of the S5 after seeing one and owning a current S4.....

1. Wow, best looking front end on a car I've seen in a while- the rest of it though....... doesn't quite live up.........I have to give a nod to the 335/M3 for rear end looks and side profile IMHO.

2. Interiorwise I actually prefer my S4 with its' "soft touch" buttons as opposed to the injection-molded plastic of the S5. I also prefer the copious amounts of wood used in the 335/M3- the S5 has less. In fact a 335 w/smooth Nappa leather would be pretty equal to an S5 interior IMHO...

All in all I feel the S5 is great value for the money but........not quite there for me partly because I need 4 doors and partly because of the interior.
I was looking forward to seeing the new S4 but if it is a TTV6 then forget it-
I love my V8 soundtrack and would not go back to a "six" in this car....

Can't wait to see the E90 M3.........
