Getting car from across the country

I found an e90 M3 with the options that i want but its located in NV and i live in NY. Is there a way to do this that makes sense finacialy?

I looks like shipping will be ~$1200. Do i arrange the transport or the dealer?
Would i have to fly out there as well?
Drive it back(~2700 mi)?
How can i negotiate this?

I would love the get some opinions on this or to hear from someone that has done something like this.

My buddy negotiated a deal with an out of state dealer and had all paperwork fedex next day air. The dealer (desperate to make a sell) arranged for the pickup and delivery but my buddy had to pay the cost. If you place the burden on them, you'd better either a) be prepared to pay the cost, b) add it to the cost of the vehicle, or c) hope they are eager to get rid of the car enough to pay for you.

Make sure you ship in a "closed container" instead of on an open flatbed where the new car is exposed to the elements (snow, rain, rocks, etc.). Just my opinion....others might have better advice. Hope it helps.

Geo --- I'm shipping my E90 from the Boston area to Los Angeles. Let me know what price you wind up settling on from LV and any advice you may have. I've been told that open air trailers are relatively 'safe' --- only major risk is hail. Given that they're protected behind the truck/elevated they're relatively safe. I've priced out covered trailers and it's almost twice as much -- ouch.
