Yeah, not likely for the mustangs, but the vettes can be very frugal on the highway. 30+ is possible. With that double overdrive on the 6 speeds they idle along the highway.

If you can live with 2 seats, and the interior (C6 isn't bad at all in my opinion), the vettes are surprisingly good daily drivers, especially given the performance.

wrong, really should youtube some new 5.0's they are not slow. My friends 5.0 put down 450 hp on a dynojet with: intake, boss intake manifold, exhaust cat delete, tune, stock headers.

Never said they are slow. Love the new 5.0s. Just a tune opens them up quite a bit.

Can the new 5.0s get 30+ mpg on the highway?

Had a C6 vette and loved it. Build quality wasn't BMW but full of features at reasonable prices and speed and handling can't be beat for anything close.
Navigation was better than my BMW, had HUD, g-meter etc. built in.

Would buy another in a moment if circumstances were different.
Not a BMW but another a very good car and you are always noticed

n/a v8 is different to a turbo 6 to throw in gas consumption when your trying to get as much power out is absurd. Im currently running 93 50/50 E85 and am getting 19 miles to a gallon, im making 400+ hp 450+ tq.... not caring

My question was genuine. I truly do not know if the 5.0s are capable of ~30 mpg highway.

I know firsthand the C5 / C6 vettes can get exceptional mileage for the power. My C5 droptop with an A4 would get 27 mpg and my C6 M6 would get 29-30. This all at 70-80 mph. C6 has 476 rwhp.

Looking at the Vette on the street, the car looks extremely long. I wonder how much the hood weighs.. I bet a CF hood would do wonders.

Vette is long. Hood is actually light. Fiberglass.

They look long, but they're actually very close in length to a 911. IIRC, the C6 is actually an inch shorter than a 997.

Nope. It's the 5.0 which is the GT. I drove the RT version which includes an intake, wheels and the Roush exhaust.

Was not a fan. I felt like Vin Diesel in the F&F movies...

BTW..we have both, an E93 (hers) and a Z06 (hers and mine). There is totally a different mindset when driving one vehicle or the other, as they are both sporty, but in totally different ways. Both cars have been tracked on HPDE events. One is like "this is really great..let's go flat out" and the other is "Oh no! Oh no! Oh no!..Crxp! Let's do that again!"
PS: I am sixty five and have owned and driven everything from VW's to Volvos, BMW, plenty of GM's, Nissans and even a Lincoln Mark VII (cool!). The Z and the E93 happen to be the nicest to own and drive.

The 2013 3 series loaners that I have had are just not right!

The new 3-Series doesn't do it for me at all...

But the Vette actually really surprised me. It was really nice inside and very built around the driver. I was impressed.

You should go over to a Chevy dealership on a slow day and take one for a spin. It's totally worth the hour you'll spend.

My thoughts exactly. To get that type of performance from a German car...you'd have to blow easily $90k.

The 997 S starts at around $95k+...even the GTR is over $90k and the maint on the GTR is STUPID!

Don't know how you guys are getting such good miles. I have an E92 335i and I get 19mpg on a good day.

The Vette is something like 18city 28highway - which I thought was really good for a car with an engine of that size.

Exactly. I get shit mpg's on my car and I don't even think twice about it. I'm sure the Vette will yield better gas mileage.

As someone else said, the hood is really light. We sat and opened it up and it weights nothing. It's huge and bulky though...had a hard time seeing over the sides of it. Kinda felt like I was driving a bat mobile.

Are they really the same size????? Hard to believe.

I guess it may be true as the 997 has rear seats and the engine in the back...so you have a lot of car behind the drivers seat.

The Cayman however...that's a nice car! I would buy a Cayman S ASAP!

I went to the ford dealer to test drive a new 5.0 as well. I thought I would really like the car but didnt even bother driving one after sitting in it. The interior was just awful, seating position much too high and I felt the visibility over the hood was poor. Anyone know if the optional Recaro seats lower seating position at all? The Grand Sport vettes are awesome but I dont really need another 2 seater.

Yes they can be lowered.

Don't test drive a car without Recaros and Brembo Package at a minimum. IMHO.

I've driven a 5.0 too and outside the sound and raw power of the engine... there was nothing going for the car, I mean absolutely nothing. Extreme body roll, unsupportive seats, interior uglier than some of Ikea's designs, same Ford cheapness all around, heavy weight, poor visibility and extreme large body.

A Z06 on the other hand, still feels like it's about to fall apart but is a much better overall car.

The C6 Corvette is 3"-5" shorter than an E90/E92, and almost exactly the same length as a (997) 911.

I'm glad I'm not the only one of likes the feel of an N/A car. I love the predictability and feel of smooth power, not freight train torque only after a certain RPM.
