BMW Performance spoiler on Space Gray
Thinking about a BMW Performance spoiler on my Space Gray E92. I know that I don't want to leave it totally raw, but can't figure out how much body-match paint to do. Taking a cue from this thread, I thought I'd open it up to the masses for feedback.
The options are:
Tell me what you think. Also, if you have pics of any of those options, please post them up! (Most of the painted BMW Perf spoilers are Alpine White). Edit: I have the CF roof on my car (E92). Last edited by Hujan; 08-30-2013 at 12:18 PM.. |

First question- do you have the CF roof, or any other CF on your car? Not that it's the deciding factor, just wondering if the spoiler would be the only CF piece.

On the other hand, I like it looks when the inside face matches the decklid on the trunk but the outside still shows the carbon. |

LOL well IMO the painted only works if you have the moonroof bc it flows. If you have the carbon roof and paint it (like my 3rd M3 I had another white one with the carbon roof and painted spoiler white) it just didn't look right to me.
with space grey the carbon exposed looks perfect on the car if you have the carbon roof. Throw a carbon diff on and your back side is money!

In that case I'd go with the bare CF. Not sure the CRT stripe (assuming you chose to match the stripe in SG) would stand out enough against the CF to warrant the extra cost.

Wow. Surprised how much support there is for leaving the carbon totally bare. I'll have to give that some more serious thought. Wish I could find good, clean photos (in good light) on Space Gray. Virtually everything I've see is on AW.

Search for photos by daft. He left it CF on space gray. Looks awesome.
I'd only paint the whole thing on colors like white or silver. But on gray or black, definitely leave it all CF |

Thought I'd update this. For me, it was between painting the front or doing the CRT stripe. Based on the unanimous results of the thread and the poll, and based on Jesal's advice, I decided to go with the CRT-themed spoiler.
I'll have to remember to throw up some pics when I get it on there. |

You will not be disappointed...I had the exact same question for my E90, and went with IND's advice (they do so many of these and have an eye for style) and I went with the CRT theme. When viewed from the back, the stripe catches the light and contrasts with the carbon, but makes anyone looking at it wonder whether the whole spoiler is grey with a lot of shadow or if it's a stripe. IMO, it compliments the shadow/light impact of space grey perfectly. Hard to describe in words (or even in pictures), but you'll see when you put it on.
A little pricey, but the CF mirror caps with M5-themed paint also enhance the look quite a bit..very subtle but again enhances the contrast/shadows of space grey. Collectively, as IND says, these little details go a long way, and I've been surprised how my friends who see my car on occasion after the IND bits have come back and said, you know your car looks really really good. |

I'm all about the little details. I dig the little intricacies that you have to look for to see. In fact, I have something in the works for custom roundels and badges that iND and Luftkraft are helping me with. Should turn out nicely. |
