Wow... some of you guys are brutal. I've actually seen worst threats regarding oil mistakes.
OP, you're fine- good luck next time and ALWAYS carry 1 qt. of oil in the trunk with you (the right kind of course). |

I think this is a fair subject and urge the flamers to stop hatin
I am glad the subject came up so I don't have to start a new thread. Just the other night I found myself in a pinch and ran out of Astroglide so i reached for the spare bottle of 10W-60 in the trunk it worked great (silky smooth) BUT I was concerned of the damage it may have caused her This thread has taught me that it's all somewhat mineral oil anyway

Like someone mentioned, I would change the oil out earlier than BMW's suggested interval. The factory TWS motor oil is high a quality group 4/5 synthetic. Adding just a liter of mineral won't harm your engine but it will degrade the oil inside your engine quicker. The viscosity of the oil added was thinner at operating temp plus group 1 and 2 mineral oils won't last 10,000 miles. Mineral oils should be changed out within 3,000 miles to avoid sludge build ups.

It's funny to read the posts by folks with wadded up panties over what kind of oil to put in their babies.
I've got a mixture of 40W race Redline mixed with 5W-30 Redline. I'm not losing any sleep over the fact that I've added a couple of quarts of Castrol 0W-30 during the last 6k miles.

Some of you guys need to lay off the OP. It's obvious he was already distraught.
And in reply to someone's post earlier. I think in general, how much you know about your car is inversely proportional to how much you paid for it To the OP, if your low engine oil light comes on it most likely only means you are low 1 qt of oil which isn't a big deal. You have plenty of time to go to the dealer to buy the TWS motor oil. If you look at the electronic "dipstick" screen, the distance between the top arrow and bottom arrow only depicts 1 qt of oil
