After-market products in production for new m3?

I was just surfing the E90 post when i came upon this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67696.

The guy in the thread visited Eisenmann and had a tour in which he saw an exhaust system being developed for the new M3.

Could it be possible that BMW let BMW tuners get a hold of a test mule or provided them with info and documents on the car to develop their products on?

If this is true than we can expect mods soon after launch of M3.:rocks:

Legally in the US, it depends on the specifics of the mod. If you get new wheels, and the engine loses compression, you are technically covered. If you lower the car, and the engine loses compression, you should still be technically covered although the dealer might argue there was somehow a connection and give you a hard time (well if you lowered it and dragged the engine on the pavement that's another story). If you chip the engine, and the engine loses compression, you should be screwed. But I've heard that if the chip comes from a supplier BMW has worked something out with, you might be okay. If that is true, I would like to see a list of approved mods/vendors after the car comes out.

BMW may provide pre-production models to selected aftemarket tuners to cut the lag time after release. That keeps excitement high for the model. However, BMW is bringing out their own tuning line that will keep full warranty, so I don't know if that effects how they will deal with the aftermarket, since it will be direct competition for those $.

Regarding warranty, in the US it must be proved that the modification had a direct bearing on the failure to deny warranty coverage (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act).

Do you mean Dinan or some other BMW tuning programme?

It will be a BMW program, like Toyota has TRD, I believe.

Very smart on the part of the manufacturers to bring the aftermarket tuning in-house. Good for the dealers, as well.

I always thought that M is the tuning department for BMW, AMG for MB, just like TRD and Nismo.

Dinan is one of the way to mod your bimmer and still keep the warranty. But keep in mind you'll pay a huge price premium over other mods which is pretty similar, but without the "Dinan" logo on it.

Below is what I found on Dinan's webpage. It doesn't sound like BMW will fix an engine if a Dinan mod has caused it to fail. Instead, Dinan is saying that a Dinan authorized dealer will fix your engine--meaning Dinan will assume manufacturer's warranty if one of its mods causes damage to itself and any other system in the car that would normally be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. That doesn't sound like a very straight-forward "drive it in, you are covered" process, and I bet it depends on the Dinan dealer's interpretation of what might be going on with your car, which can be a drag. Having said that, I have had no experience dealing with Dinan dealers, so who knows, maybe they are great...

"CARS COVERED BY THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE MANUFACTURER’S NEW CAR LIMITED WARRANTY.

US and Canadian Specification Vehicles Only

If your vehicle is currently covered by the vehicle manufacturer’s new car limited warranty, Dinan products are warranted for the remaining term of the vehicle manufacturer’s new car limited warranty. The manufacturer’s new car warranty is limited to 4 years or 50,000 miles (80,000 kilometers in Canada), commencing on the date of first retail sale or the date the vehicle is first placed in-service as a demonstrator or company vehicle, whichever is earlier. Dinan’s warranties are transferable when ownership of the vehicle into which the Dinan products were originally installed is sold.

To obtain service under this warranty, the vehicle must be brought, upon discovery of a malfunction or defect in materials and/or workmanship, to the workshop of any Authorized Dinan Dealer, during normal business hours. Proof of purchase in the form of a lawful invoice is required. The Authorized Dinan Dealer will, without charge for parts or labor, repair or replace the defective Dinan component(s), as well as any original vehicle manufacturer’s component(s) that may have been directly affected by a Dinan component, using new or authorized remanufactured parts. The decision to repair or replace said parts is at the sole discretion of Dinan and/or the original vehicle manufacturer. Parts for which replacements are supplied under this limited warranty become the property of Dinan and/or the original vehicle manufacturer. In all cases, a reasonable period of time must be allowed for warranty repairs to be completed after the vehicle is delivered to the Authorized Dinan Dealer."

Except BMW doesn't have an M line of parts, except for what's available on the M cars. The others you mention have performance engine, suspension and appearance parts up to racing stuff. Cams, supercharger, brakes, etc. are all available and, if installed by an authorized dealer, are covered by the vehicle's original warranty. That's a big benefit.

Yes BMW is coming out with its own performance parts line. However, comparing it to Porsche Tequipment is probably better than TRD.

So, you're saying it'll be limited to styling and accessories, rather than performance parts?

No, Porsche Tequipment also includes suspension and performance upgrades. See European Car Magazines project 996. They used nothing but Tequipment.

There is not etched in stone document saying that BMW is coming out with its own line of performance parts but I believe the writing is on the wall. As most of you know BMW is cutting some of its ties with performance parts maker DINAN and has already denied DINAN the right to produce BMW backed software upgrades. This comes on the heels of rumors that BMW will be producing software performance packages for the 335i.

Honestly, I think its about time that BMW got on the performance parts band wagon as there is a lot of money to be made in aftermarket tuning. I think the best evidence for this move is simply the fact that it just makes sense.

Okay, I missed that on my first visit to their site: http://www.porsche.com/international...on/tequipment/
They do have powerkits, brakes, exhaust and short shifters.

My parts guy says BMW's is coming, just nothing official to release yet.
