BMW M Performance Exhaust

I've had the exhaust for 10 months and I've noticed what appears like "kinks" on the polished tips. These kinks look like slight bends different from radius of the opening so you can actually see a variation in curvature. Curl your index finger and then look from the side at your knuckles. Note how the radius changes at the knuckle. This is what I am describing. The exhaust is great, I never had any paint flakes, but this kinking or folding detracts from the looks. I may have BMW warranty the exhaust.

*** Took another look, the kink happens where there is a seam on the tip. If you look at the inside of the tips each one has a seam. Clearly the tips are fabbed by rolling a piece of titanium plate and then welding it. A bad heat treatment and I can see how deformation, even possibly a crack might form. Time for a warranty claim in November. ***

Likely what I'll do in November.

Just wondering if anyone else saw this.

Here's picture I just grabbed off the web. Not my car but the same issue is clearly visible.

Within the circle you can see that the tips where they are closest to each other have a kink, even a flat spot, where the seam is. Wasn't like that when new.

Mine is the same and has been that way since new.

Here's a picture I took just a few days after I had it installed. I talked to a few experts at work (aircraft turbine engine manufacturer) and they say it is normal for rolled titanium. It is almost impossible to get the welded seem perfect.

I noticed the tips right away. They are exactly like yours. At first, I was a little, no real disappointed, but it sounded great! So I've learned not look at them so closely. But you are correct. Anything but perfect. I wish there would have been options for tips, because I would of passed on these. Like I said, it sounds great! Very surprised at the tips though.

100% normal for seamed tubing. I would guess they all have it to some extent but more/less depending on where in the tube the tips were cut from...
For the price of that exhaust, they should do better but good luck getting a warranty claim.
