Popular LCD/Plasma TV choices?

what are some good and popular choices you guys would recommend?

i might be able to get some for dirt cheap but i need some brands and models. nothing too extravagant but something the average or above average joe would buy.

maybe i can get you guys a deal

I have this:http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panas...oductDetail.do, and at $3500, holy crap is it a good deal!

and the previous generation in a 42". Both are outstanding. Pioneer is also a very good name in Plasma. I'm not big on the LCD's.

42" version for $1399. You can't go wrong with this one.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panas...oductDetail.do

*edit - they make them cheaper, but get the 1080p. If you end up with a BluRay or HD-DVD, you'll be glad you did. My 42" is 1080i, and while it looks good, the 1080p is noticably better.

Sonys are good but cost too much, you can get samsungs for the same quality for a little less. I agree Sony has a better name overall and their TV design look more modern than Samsungs.

Plasma or LCD? My TV room is low light and I read plasma is better. LCD for bright locations. I have been postponing this way too long.

if you want the best bang for the buck you can't go wrong with Olevia or Vizio. They are definitely not top of the line, but by no means suck, especially for the price. you can get a 42" 1080p Vizio for about $1,100. WAY WAY better than some other cheap brands like Westinghouse.

and the break down is like this. Plasma has better deeper colors and the black on Plasma is the truiest black, LCD can't compare. However, LCD is quickly catching up on the same quality picture but the black is still not there. Plasma's bulb last shorter than LCD, in another words LCD last longer.

If your getting anything 42" or smaller I would recommend LCD for sure. Anything 50" or higher I would recommend Plasma for sure. Anything in the middle like a 46" is a toss up, its up to you, but the 40's range is the cutoff switch line.

Thanks.
A bit off topic. They ran a story on Mark (scary) Cuban here the other day. He has an 103" HD plasma. $70,000.

I completely agree with everything except the bulb in a plasma - there isn't one. Time to 50% brightness on both plasma and LCD has improved to the point where you'll replace the TV for technology reasons before it craps out.

Just got a 50" Plasma by Samsung on Black Friday for $900. It's not 1080 but the pictures are pretty damn clear. Wanted a Sony but they're too pricey. I highly recommend Samsung for TVs if you dont want to drop a lot of money on more expensive brands like Sony.

Sammy is good for LCD's. Sony is too expensive, and it's mostly the same technology. You wont see a difference until you hook up BluRay or HD-DVD with an optimised source disk.

Pioneer or Panasonic for Plasma. They've got the patents on the latest / best technology.

Garage List
+1 on Samsung, and +1 on Sony being overpriced as per usual. I'd take LCD over Plasma.

LCD usually lasts longer, meaning it has a longer life. Also its usually better in contrast ratio, color, etc. Sony Bravia is the best LCD..
