Felt good though, just spinning a little too much. Thanks
When did they move the cruise lever to the right?

I agree with you basic point - the procedure is easy once you try it. It's sort of like brushing your teeth - describing how to do that in detail on paper would probably take 300 words, but the actual process is simple once you know it.

That said, most of us do not drive around with DSC off and in S6 all the time. I personally leave it in S5 the majority of my time. Of course, its easy to turn off DSC and click the drivelogic up a notch.

That gives the 'FLAG' and I'm ready to launch for maximum performace. My car works best at 4500 rpm with the PS2s. It has been over two months from my last Launch....but ready anytime I want.

From the manual: it is a bit confusing and does contradict some posts here

Launch Control
Launch Control enables an optimum acceleration
when starting off on a road surface with
good traction.
Do not use Launch Control too often; otherwise,
the powerful stresses on the vehicle
will lead to premature component wear.<
Launch Control is available when the engine is
at operating temperature, i.e. after driving continuously
for approx. 6.2 miles/10 km.
1. With the engine running, step on the brake
with your left foot.
2. Activate Dynamic Traction Control (DTC),
refer to page 90.
3. Activate Driving dynamics control, refer to
page 62.
4. With the vehicle stationary, activate the
manual mode and select 1st gear.
5. With your right foot, push the accelerator
pedal past the resistance point. The engine
speed for pulling away is adjusted. A flag
symbol appears in the instrument cluster.
6. When you release the brake pedal, the vehicle
accelerates. Keep the accelerator pedal
floored.
7. The upshifting occurs automatically as long
as you keep the accelerator pedal pressed
past the resistance point.
Launch Control will be ready for use again after
you drive a certain distance.
Launch Control is not available for use during
the break-in phase, refer to page 126.

Launch control? Wow I guess I need to sit down with the owners manual this week. I've had the car since June, its a 2011 E92 with comp pkg and had no earthly idea that the car had a launch feature. What else will this little beast do that I dont know about, does it have a lateral hop mode or possibly a automatic vodka pouring device? My last 3 cars were all Benz, 2 S class V-12's and a CLS55 sandwiched in between, I do miss the awesome torque of the S65 but seriously dont miss the 8 or so MPG or the fact it melted the rears down in 5k or less....... So at what point should I expect the main bearing to drop out of this thing.... Yeah I read that thread in fact it was the 1st I read on this forum and almost torched the car in the driveway now I have launch control so I'm all happy again so I guess i'll just flog the thing like a rented mule and see what happens!

Haha, this line is funny in this context. We all understand you are referring to your Merc S65 Twin Turbo V12 beast, but...well you know.

James

EDIT: PS, not starting torque wars, just the amount of linguistic coincidence is entertaining

Quick question: when using launch control, do leave the gas pedal floored and the DCT shifts up gears by itself? Or do you need to use the paddles (I don't think so, but wanted to confirm). I've never used LC yet.

this is not the same printing as the 2009 m3 manual i have. i printed word for word in my previous post what it says. looks like they made it more confusing on the newer manuals lol.

if you choose to shift with the paddles thats fine - if you do not then the car will shift for you.

keep in mind if you shift manually once you are then in manual mode so would have to continue shifting on your own or you'll red line.

Yeah, that was my bad I meant to say left.

So I did some practice launces last night using Sameh's method.

D5+MDM+Sport Plus

Worked pretty well. There is a bog that takes place around 2,000-2,500rpm's that I rode out pretty well by gradually easing into the accelerator. Didn't really spin much with DSC off and PS2's that are approximately 50% worn in 60 degree temps last night. I attribute the no spin due to the fact the car is launching at a low rpm and by the time the rpm's are climbing higher, the car has enough momentum and not enough power to completely haze the tires accelearting through the gears. I liked it, I'm curious as to what 60ft. that would have given me. It still doesn't have that ultimate thrust off the line, and that's obviously where the LC comes into play.

I'm going to try tonight to do some LC launches by launching at the lowest rpm's possible, which by the manual and general consensus on here is approx 4,500rpm's. I just can't have this thing spinning all over the place during the first 60ft. And I'm not buying drag radials or e.t. streets because I told my self I'd drag this car only on occasions.

It will only get better. Glad it worked for you!

The whole bog thing keeps coming up and was wondering if anyone has tried a Sprint Booster yet? I had one on the S65 due to delay in acceleration from a stop and it took care of most of the problem...... Which of course led to more wheel spin which in turn blew chunks of rubber off the rears at an alarming rate... The M is a lot more technical than I realized so how do you know if the bog is a mechanical thing or the electronics trying to catch up with the drive train?

It's electronic. try DSC-off it goes away, MDM is less, DSC-on people will be laughing.

Thats what I figured,I'll have to do some experimenting with my car but just for everyday driving its scary sometimes pulling out in front of someone as the car takes its sweet time to get going. I'll order a Sprint Booster today and let you know what affect it has, like I said in my last post it was just what the doctor ordered for the S65 so I'm thinking it will probably do the same for the M...... But I have been wrong before.... Once..... A long time ago.

These instructions don't work on the 2011. Foot can never be on brake. There are actually 2 versions in the two manuals you get.

Have you tried it? Eliminate step 1 and step 6 to make it work.
