M3 Vs. Subaru Impreza WRX Sti

I know they're not really similar but I'm really starting to like the STI. It's faster than an M3 and is AWD and is half the price. I can easily afford an M3 and have been meaning to buy one but the Subaru WRX STI is really impressing me. I'm thinking buy this and trade my 1er for the M3 convertible (but in January 2012).

I respect your opinion.
BUT you can not compare a M3 with a STi.
They are just different.

I used to have an STi and loved that car dearly and miss it. I can't compare the experience to that of an M cuz I don't have one yet but they are very different platforms. Kinda hard to compare.

...and yes STIs do have great handling, infamous for their understeer though.

Only place i can see the STI being faster is off the line. Otherwise M3 should pull away.

Think i rather have a stang 5.0 over the STI.. in that price range that is.

Wanna buy my 2010 special edition (spec C suspension and wheels) STI ? Under 11K miles and may trade in this week for a TTRS. Let me know fast, i'm near Ohio.

Aspen White 125 units made, never modded, looks brand new.

In no respect is any STi faster than an M3 (stock)...I speak from experience of driving a stage 2 09' hatch and owning a 2006 for 2+ years. Even speaking about stage 2 engine mods an STi cannot run with an M3, get your facts straight.

Evo X would be closer to an M3 (less understeer, much better steering, great DCT transmission).. STI is more practical/reliable.

Perhaps the M3 driver was better. A stage 2 STI can run with an M3.

Yep!

My .02
A stock Sti is a good match up in terms of straight line speed (ignoring the launch) to an E36 M3 once they are rolling. Horrible drag and AWD drivetrain loss. A stock E36 M3 will reach 99-101 mph in the quarter mile. Sti's do roughly the same, varying from 96-102 from what i've personally seen.

I'll second this. I just got back from a sti test-drive, which I had to do after reading this thread. No way does it handle better than a zcp m3. The suspension feels soft and just no stiffness. I like the shifter and te clutch feel but that's about it.

U cannot compare these two cars. There's a reason for the price difference and u will see that u definitely get what u pay for. Btw the interior is cheap as hell and the leather is probably pig leather

No, sorry. I've owned 2 06 STi's one stok one factory freak stage 2. I can personally tell you that an STi stage two will give the M3 a run for it's money down low till about 80, but that's where the M3 will show it's legs

my stage 2.5 06 sti would give my 08 m3 a run for its money till about 120 km/hr, then it would get destroyed. The gearing/top end of the m3 will pull away by leaps and bounds. The STi had personality though, and will always hold a special place in my heart.

I meant on a road course. The M3 is probably more fun but it is not about straight line performance anyway.

Obviously not, and keep in mind I'm pretty sure the old sedans were slightly lighter than the M3's. Though, I will say I do prefer the RWD feel in the corners, for the 30k they were asking for STi's you cannot discount its capabilities in any segment.

they're nice but an M3 is just so much more..
it's not always about speed you know, even if the STI is in-fact faster.
just to clear things up i've walked on a bunch of STIs ...easy
