From a Cayman S to a E90 M3

....so my Cayman S is on Ebay for sale since I need a sedan (wife about to give birth to my first son) so I do need a sedan! My Cayman S has a GT3 RS race muffler and H&R coil overs to the GROUND. I think the M3 is the perfect compromise between an almost track ready car (brakes do seem to fade after a few hot laps) and the ultimate grocery grabber. I am curretly a PCA (Porsche Club of America) member and there are tons of events including track drivers education events all over the country....I have even raced with PBOC (Porsche an BWW Owners Club) and was wondering if there is a similar club for BMWs or M3s....any feedback is appreciated...I live in Austin now. I think I might be able to sell my Cayman S soon (with great pain) but I am also exited to suit up my next car, a 2009 E90 M3....brembo upgrade, Angel eyes, 3D Design CF front lip, front CF grill among other upcomign upgrades....
Thanks...

Contrats on the kid.

BMWCCA Racing is very well established. We used to run with PCA in California back around the turn of the century. At Watkins Glen a couple of weeks ago, they had to break the racers into two run groups because there were about 50 racers. Go to BMWCCA-dot-org and follow the link to the BMWCCA Racing homepage.

There is an active group of racers in Texas. Post the same message on Roadfly-dot-com in the e46 M3 forum or the e9x M3 forum and you will get lots of information from folks in your area.

I want a 2006 Cayman S or a 2007 Boxster S. Think I'd rather have the Boxster tho, same car, same performance, same weight, WITH drop top!!

Best 2 Porsches you can buy under $100k, IMO.

I too was a previous P car (05 Boxster S) owner and changed to a 335 then to an E92M3. You won't regret you decision. I was also a member of PCA and a current BMWCCA member. I think, both have similar programs (racing and driving schools) here in Central OH but BMWCCA has more incentives than PCA like rebates for a new or lease car (for active member for at least a year).

I can't wait to spend my check! I think it's only 500 bucks (same as all 3-series), but it will go a long way toward buying the GF some new stuff. She'll apreciate the car more if she associates it with a shopping spree.

Give them some new stuff for the house while you take a brand new M3 (or at least a new Plasma).

Fatherhood changes everything. Consider the E93 as well. The little whippersnapper needs zero leg room anyway, and you can stave off being a sedan dad for another couple of years.

Does the convertible have child seat anchors?

My dad used to drive around in a Triumph TR4 with my mom in the front seat and three (average age 6) kids on the package tray behind the front seats. We fit fine. No seat belts, no child seats, no roll bar. We all lived. Imagine that. We also rode in the back of old pickup trucks to park and watch mother bears and their cubs. Life is much safer, now. It's good that concerned citizens and government are there to protect us.

Yup, the E93 has the seat anchors.

I agree, we have lost the innocence of unfettered motoring. Totally relate to your days riding in open cars with no belts. When I was 8 my father took my sister and me for ice cream in a 166MM, which is, of course, a barchetta. No top, thin aluminum doors. He takes a left into the parking lot, I lean against my sister, my sister leans on the door, the door pops open, and my sister tumbles out onto the parking lot. Nobody batted an eye. Do that today, and you have Social Services at your door.
