When dry, you can see mineral deposits both inside and outside on the passenger side...clearly that's been a problem for a while.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that such an expensive and new car to leak like this. It's not like BMW hasn't made convertibles in the past. My E36 never leaked a single drop. Yes, it's a much simpler mechanism with much fewer seams where water can leak. But, keeping water out isn't rocket science (unlike the top mechanism itself...what a marvel!)

I'll be taking it into the dealer for this as well as a very annoying acceleration issue, which I need to see if others on this forum have experienced.

While I love this car, I'm second guessing myself for buying it used. My E36 was purchased new (and at the end of the model run) so it was darn near perfect (they had 7 years to work out issues).

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from you all!
Ive heard the leak issue happen to someone else months ago. I dont know what the outcome was, but I'm sure BMW can resolve it. Mine was built 06/08 14,800 miles and I've never had any type of leak issue. I've even taken it through the touchless high pressure wash a couple of times and water never leaked in. Hope BMW fixes yours.

The new Z4 features a simpler two panel design since the car is much smaller. The E93 has a more complex three panel design. Lots more can go wrong. I think the true test will be the new 6-series convertible. From all accounts, it appears to have a two panel design as well, but is larger than the Z4. It'll be interesting to see how the technology has evolved / matured for that car.

M3 E93 2008 convertible leaky roof "A pillar"

Hello fellow M3 drivers:

Looks like I'm next in line for the retractable "leaky roof" syndrome on M3's or 3 series Bimmers.
So far two BMW dealers have attempted to resolve or fix the leak (only on driver's side a pillar) which occurs while "hand washing" with a very light spray.

The only two BMW dealers in my region in south Texas have had my M3 for weeks trying every adjustment to top and replacing weather strip at top A pillar where the top clamps shut.

Still no apparent fix and have notified BMW.USA regarding quality of care of my "former" pristine condition M3. The two south Texas dealers have turned my ultimate driving machine into an "ultimate disappointment" by crashing the front bumper, leaving the leather seats and floors wells uncovered, and dirt (yes black dirt!) accumulate on all interior surfaces while working on car on their dealer lot! I have had to fight with service people at all levels as to why they are degrading, devaluing, depreciating, and damaging my once beautiful $80K M3 that I have been enjoying commuting or dynamically driving. I cannot understand this in light of specifically requesting quality and clean care of my M3 for a warranty issue that they receive BMW reimbursement.

Does anyone have any information for recourse or compensation for a non-fixable warranty issue? Much appreciated since I was hoping to stay in the Bimmer family with such an incredible daily driver and road trip king..
Any information will be much appreciated!

I get a significant amount of water on the seats when I run through the car wash and when the car wash is on "high pressure".

Wondering if anyone else has this issue?
are you serious to name this as ISSUE? it is designed to avoid rain in, not a pressure water jet. it is a retractable roof and is normal.

Ok...first of all. I sold my E93 nearly 2 years ago. Look how old this thread is... second, yes, it most certainly is an issue, because I had a friend with an E93 who went through the same car wash and never had a single drop of water come in. I also have some friends with Chrysler Sebring convertibles who never had any water leak in through this same car wash...I also have personally driven 3 different SL 55 and 63s through the car wash, and they too didn't leak a single drop of water.

So ya...it is NOT normal, and most certainly is an issue

I heard it's common for tin tops to have some leaks going through high pressure car wash in which the manual states to avoid. I get some leaks in the Z4's tin top too. Dealer told me not to run it through a high pressure car wash when I asked them about it. But I still do when I'm in a hurry. Its just a few drops. Never leaks in the rain or regular hand wash.

Are you saying your 40i leaks at a high pressure car wash. I’m having same problem . Owned i40 5 weeks been to wash 4 times. My accent interior lighting not working, apparently corroded connector.waiting for part 3 weeks.
So your aware it leaks. My dealer doesn’t know where or how on drivers door water got in. Nobody ever said touchless is no good for x5 40i.
Have you complained to dealer?

This thread is 10 years old...and it also says E93 M3 leaking roof.

This has nothing to do with my 2019 X5 40i

I just picked up a 2008 E93 and have the leak in the same spot with high pressure water. My recommendation based on all Verts I have owned over the years is to use Shin Etsu grease and apply every week for a month and this should bring the seals back.

I have also "Stuffed" seals with Poly tubing in the past which works well.
