electronic dipstick?

How long should it take before you get a reading on the electronic dipstick?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the engine has to warm up a little before it will get a reading, and when it does it only takes a minute or two.

Like cowmoo said, it only reads when the engine oil has warmed up.

apparently after an oil change it can take up to 30 minutes to get the first reading.

You didn't mention the oil change before. Yes, the reading is kinda slow then.
