Any M-DCT buyers (esp Sedan) waiting for '09 as new orders won't build until June?

I have a deposit down for either a coupe or sedan (currently leaning sedan) and definitely want M-DCT. Since a new M-DCT order placed today won't be built until June and delivered in July (unless something changes from what we currently know), I'm curious if anyone is thinking about waiting a few extra months to get an '09 model year instead?

I'm particularly interested in the thoughts of those looking at the sedan with the looming E90 facelift, which may or may not yield revisions to the E90 M3 (I realize current consensus is that it won't but you never know).

Thoughts??

Yeah, i'm waiting until fall and i hear more about DCT. I want a sedan, just like those better for some reason. Plus i either need to sell a car or save some serious money because i don't want anything over $800 p/month.

Germany takes August off. July will be the last 2008s. 2009s start builds in September, so around October they'll be available.

I'd get a 2009 sedan. I would wait a year to buy anyway, let BMW work any kinks out. I don't want to be an early adopter of any new model. I had a 2002 M3 and had to go through the bearing recall. Not happy about it. If I get another M3, and I'm not sure I will yet, it will be after 2008.

yeah i love getting something first but you tend to get burned if there are bugs or build problems. i saw a thread earlier where a guy had 2 diff front seats in his M.
just gotta weigh how much you want to be FIRST

i will get the sedan m-dct in july timeframe...based on dealer feedback but nothing formal yet so who knows....if this slips to late august I will wait for 2009....

i don't think bmw is going to work out many bugs till well into next year once they get much more data and decide to make changes on factory line..otherwise we will be retrofixing for now with visits to dealer....only reason to wait for 2009 in my view is for the potential E90 tailight change .....sedan lights currently sucks from the rear!

I have a May build for DCT and will keep it.

We will probably get some DCT reviews from mags in the next couple of weeks, my guess anyway.

haven't decided whether i'm going with DCT or not, but i'm waiting til 2009. i got my 335i in germany last september after the august exodus and it took about 4 weeks after the factory reopened. apparently all of the orders just queue in the computer while everyone is away...

I'm waiting for an '09. I wanted a chance to see all of the colors and options I can before making my choice, although I'm pretty sure of what all I want right now. Since '08 is a short model run I figured I would wait and see if anything changed for '09 as far as options go. I would love to have MDM as a stand alone, but I don't look for that to happen. The Euro seats are another matter as well. I also wanted to avoid any first year problems but there doesn't seem to be any so far thankfully.

Yeah its hard to say. Unfortunately there are no unmasked rear shots yet (that I know of), so its unknown whether the actual sheet metal will change, or just the tail-light assemblies themselves. If its just lights, then its a good bet they will change the M3 as well. I also think that if only the decklid sheetmetal changes, there's a good chance the changes will make it to the M3 too(since as far as I know, they use the same decklid piece as the normal 3 series). But if the quarter panels then it might not propigate to the M3 since that would mean M3 specific changes which might not be cost effective. Of course, its always possible the M3 will get a new M3 specific tail-light assembly that requires no bodywork changes, either for '09 or perhaps later.

I am leaning heavily toward an M-DCT sedan myself. But my plan has been to wait til next year to buy anyway (tho its very difficult), so I will be getting an '09 by default.

After thinking about it, I am pretty sure I will wait until the 2009 models are released. That will give me enough time to research the DCT option, and it might also give me a few color options.

I am afraid though that should I wait longer my more frugal side will come out and lead me to buying a 335i instead.

same, I'm fairly cheap myself. I am looking at the Sedan and 6MT both at money saving options.

I kind-of want the Technology and Stereo but thats another $5K

In fact lowest cost (sedan, 6MT no navi) is about $10K less than coupe, navi, DCT, Stereo. That's $10K is no joke would like to save but the options $2700 or $3200 every time I turn around.

I saw the ISF posted somewhere with navi + ML stereo just bearly $60K.

I'm very indecisive. I don't want to order one til I know what the DCT is like, and now that the wait is til June, starting to think I should wait til the 09's come out... Problem is i'm very impatient! Waiting til Fall is a long ass time away!

The way I have both an E92 335i and an E92 M3 configured, there is roughly a $20,000 price differential. If you factor in gas guzzler tax, and the European Discount (or other stale market factor) you might receive on a 335i, it could be in the $25,000 range. That's up to 50% more for what is essentially a few tenths of a second difference in acceleration (with regards to day to day driving). See how my frugal/cheap side comes out when I type....

To be honest, much of my decision will be based on the reviews that begin to trickle down from the unbiased reviewers of the DCT transmission and a test drive. Should I find that it is not that great of a transmission (and it disappoints like SMG), I will probably go with the 335i.

I imagine that there will no change between 2008 and 2009. I think that it just depends when you are ready to purchase. Personally, when the sedan is available w/DCT is when I will buy.

ya i am going for DCT also and waiting for this coming fall to place my order for all the same reasons you guys have and also maybe bmw will make changes for options and prices by lookin at things that are selling and things that arent really getting any attention...hopefully this could lead us to having more of a variety and im sure we will get a better price then for what its selling now
