Is there any way that the DCT can be set to stay in D5 when I start the car?

It doesn't matter which setting its in when I leave it, it always starts off in D2 unless I use the 'M' button

Edit:

I think I just found an answer. It seems the UK version is different from the US version. It doesn't seem like it can be changed.

Unfortunately you're stuck with it. Default settings differ by country. There have been threads on this. Here's one:

You could program the M button to go to D5 when you push it. Start car...push button...done.

The US version indeed defaults to a different setting than other regions. But to be clear, neither can switch the default from the factory setting. Its just that the car remembers the setting for the mode that is not is use by default. So, US cars remember the setting for D mode across restarts while UK cars remember the setting for S mode across restarts.

Confounded and ridiculous? Yes. Par for the BMW course? Yep.

Defaulting the Euro cars to D2 is almost certainly driven by the regulations on reported average fuel economy - they are pretty much forced to have it default to an economical auto mode so they can quote the best fuel economy, which affects taxation.

That may be but my comment has nothing whatsoever to do with the different default modes between the different countries. That part is perfectly reasonable.

Instead, I was referring to the fact that it remembers the setting for the mode that is not selected by default and the fact that the default cannot be changed in regions where taxation issues are irrelevant.
