Another Lighted ZHP Shift Knob Install :)

Thanks to ///Metak for his original DIY. Pretty time consuming mod due to the dremelling, etc. But not difficult. Love the results.

Now that I have the tools and know-how, I'd be willing to do this for m3post-ers for a minimal cost in exchange for my time

Very nice. Everyone with a manual should do this swap.

It should have come like this from the factory.

It is about 0.5" shorter. I never had issues from 1st to 2nd, but the feel is far less rubbery with this solid weighted shifter.

Looks good KANdaddy, you're crazy to offer to do this for others. It's so time consuming. It was fun to do as a project, but I ruined the leather on my first shift knob before I got it right. So in the end it cost me twice what it should have. Still worth it!

LOL! Yea maybe. I doubt any one will take me up on it though. I think I can turn it around very quickly now that I've done one. There is a guy that charges like $150 to do this and that is not including parts. That is highway robbery.

this would be a good mod to do with the RE shifter to lower it slightly

the stock shifter is already way too low. The beauty of this shifter is definitely not in the height, it's the wieght

Well, if anyone thinks the stock shifter is too short this is not the shifter for them. It definately make it shorter. But you are absolutely correct, it's the wieghted solid construction that makes this shifter so much better. The stock unit is hollow and quite rubbery, horrible!

Endo, here is a comparison photo, stock vs. ZHP:

Thanks Metak for clarifying that. I was thinking of doing UUC SSK w/ DSSR till I see this thread. I guess I will need more time to make my decision.

What did you do for the LEDs? Did you re-use the one from the stock shifter like ///Metak did? Or if you didn't, then what type of LED did you use and where did you get it?

I would rather you supply me with the parts so I don't have to front the $$ for them.

I had an old e46 M3 knob lying around but the LEDs on that were a different design and ended up shorting themselves out on the ZHP knob b/c it is metal inside. At that point I canabalized my e90 knob exactly as ///Metak did and all worked perfectly.

I would be interested in getting this mod done. PM me if your offer still stands as well as a price estimate. Thanks.

Great mod and after installing this knob, the shifting action became much more positive.

This is one if the better mods you can do to your e90 that looks and feels great and after using this know you will never want to go back. Trust me.
