I wonder if you guys can grab your cell phones and record the information that shows up on the dash and navi screen etc while narrating what is going on. That way you have a video record of the error and the procedure you had to follow to get the car to respond correctly. That followed up with an email with the vid to BMWNA should spark some interest. Especially if it starts coming from various people.

Just a thought.

Update: DCT malfunction

Brought 2011 e93 M3 to dealer today regarding the DCT malfunction where I could only select gears 1,3,5. This malfunction only happened once, a week ago, and cleared after restart. There has been no reoccurence since then. Here is a quote of what they found:

"fault interrogation found DKG FC 5A32 pressor sensor clutch stored not currently present frequency 1. Test plan concluded with both pressure senors operation properly at this time. PUMA case ######## for further diagnosis. BMW NA has seen this during break in of DCT vehicles. They would like the fault cleared and road tested to verify function. They feel the fault will not reccur"

Hope this helps others suffering from the malfunction. The car malfunctioned after about 1400 miles.

Greg.

Now that's interesting. "BMW NA has seen this during break in of DCT vehicles"

Calling the dealer with this info tomorrow to tell them what happened with your car and your fault code. As of today they are still awaiting to hear from BMW on a date for a new transmission.

Not much of an update... driving the car, malfunction has not re-occured a 4th time yet. The dealer said 3 transmissions are on a ship from Germany, one of them will be mine. They said 2-3 weeks before delivery, it's been 1.

Will post again when I get to the dealer.

This is unfortunate, but the good news is the situation is being resolved.

Keep us up to date.

I would have left the car at the shop... Would they not allow you to do so?

Like I said, nothing new. Glad to hear the car is good and back to kicking arse. Enjoy your toy

Wow, sorry to hear about it APDSpider. First DCT replacement (other than from the wrong fluid!) that I can recall. I wish you well.

They never did replace the tranny's in the two that were recently lemoned or bought back did they? Odd that they decided to do that in this case. Very odd indeed.

You mean Radiation Joe and Greeney?

Those guys didn't have error codes or transmissions that would not shift. They only had lag, and BMW has been extremely reluctant to acknowledge the lag as a real issue even as they clearly addressed it (for most people - not all, sadly) with software updates.

Means they have no idea what's really causing the problem.

Count me in. I got "Transmission Malfunction" right after the 1200 mile service. The car wouldn't go into gear at gear at all and I couldn't drive. It finally cleared itself 5 minutes before the tow truck arrived and hasn't happened again since. It's a 2011. Something's messed up with this transmission. These kinds of bugs don't just go away - they're a train wreck waiting to happen and possibly right after your car is out of warranty.

Joe had lag but wasn't Greeney's stalling on him? His case in particular struck me as similar to this case.

Yes, Greeney's main issue was stalling.

Ditto for me, 25K miles, no issues.

The constant is that we lose 1,3,5,R and not the other clutch. Some lose 2,4,6. We'll see what they say this time.
I assume you lose 7th gear as well? Driving straight to the dealer was brilliant, I'm glad they're fixing it. Keep us appraised of the outcome.

True, Greeney's stalled. However, to my knowledge - at least after some software update was applied - he was not receiving error messages like the OP, and his car would indeed shift to all gears properly. In other words, at that point it came down to his word against BMW's regarding whether there were issues or not. I don't know that he ever actually got a BMW tech to come out, get in his car, and experience the car stall firsthand. Or if he did, then I suppose just ended up buying his car back by then anyway, since it had been a problem for so long by that point.

I was making the comparison since, at least to me, one that drops out of gear or stalls and one that only makes certain gears available seems like there might be a similar root cause.
