BMW CCA Oktoberfest 2006 - Anyone going? Anyone been before?

Oktoberfest 2006 (BMW Car Club of America annual event) is in July, in Grand Rapids, MI - a scant 4 hours from me...I used to live there actually.

Anyay, has anyone been to an Oktoberfest? What's it like? Is it worth going just for a day

I have participated in 7 O'fests. I suggest that you plan to participate in the whole shebang including the driving school, rallies, Zymol Concours, receptions, demo drives, etc., etc., etc. The Roundel has complete information.

Wish I could go this year! It promises to be a great one.

What exactly is Zymol Concours? Is that a detailing comp or something?

It's expensive. www.bmwcca.org

Roundel is BMW CCA's official magazine, you should join. $40/year

Zymol (Chuck Bennett, CEO) participates in O'fests and demonstrates detailing techniques and products. The Company also sponsors a Concours on Friday awarding prizes.

Chuck is a great guy and has a wealth of information on automotive detailing sprinkled with humorous BS. He's worth the price of admission andhis products smell good! <g> Seriously, one of his products "Vinyl" for cleaning and restoring vinyl trim is absolutely in a class by itself. I hope he will give me a bottle for this endorsement. Smile

Join the BMW CCA and you will receive the Roundel every month. Membership may well be the best $40/yr. you ever spend if you like cars.

Read the issue of the Roundel with the writeup of last Oktoberfest. I've been to one, and it was fun. Driving school, autocross, concours, etc. It gets a real crosssection of BMW owners, from 2002s and Bavarias, an occasional M1, to more current models.

If you are that close, I would go for at least a day or two.

Thank for the input, folks. I wish I could take a week's worth of vacation to attend, but that's just not in the cards.

I wish I had a better sense (detail) on what's going on the last day...Friday. I'm tempted to go and do the drivers school that day. But my local chapter advertises Driving School events too....is there any advantage to do it at Oktoberfest? Or is the opposite true...don't do it at Oktoberfest because there are other things you'll miss while doing the school???

It's impossible to say whether the O'fest school is better. Most chapter schools are excellent but some haven't developed quite as yet.
