Has anyone here removed ONLY the stock resonators on the X-pipe?

Assuming you already have an aftermarket slip on muffler setup, looking for a bit more sound and wondering if anyone has removed the resonators on the stock X-pipe?

I know most people are removing the primary or secondary cats but in CA that is illegal to remove or touch the cats thus most muffler shops won't risk it.

thanks!

I just got test pipes install in CA a couple days ago, and it was the best decision ever. Forget messing with the resonators. It's just so much work and hassle, not worth it at all. And unless you have to smog, it's undetectable.

Which test pipes did you get?

I'm in Norcal too, can we perhaps meet up and compare notes? I'm running an Akra rear slip on, what muffler do you have?

with an AKRA slip on not much sound without removing the primary...

I know its illegal to remove the primary cat but if you keep a secondary cat and leave the res it will definately give you more volume.

keeping the primary cat just wont give you that much gain in sound and in power...

get the TUrner test pipes or the MS test pipe... you will love the results. if you find the right muffler shops they will do it... or maybe a friend of a friend might know one..

Like Sean stated, just remove the Primary Cats and install test pipes, you can contact EAS and they can install them for you

I'd recommend either the Turner or ACM TP. You'll be very happy with the end result.

Nice meeting you last night ~ good for us to both hear each others cars Your Dinan with test pipes sound very good with just the right amount of bark.

I just remembered we had an RPI exhaust on our old e93 m3. How do you guys feel about the RPI exhaust? It's been so long I can't remember if we bought the one with cats or without but it sounded VERY throaty!

Does anyone have a picture of the Dinan and Akrapovic X-pipe side by side for comparison?

It was nice meeting you too!

The dinan midpipe has 4 resonators and no cats, so it's very quiet, but also fully free-flowing

I had good luck with RPI exhaust in the past and love their quality and customer service. I'm thinking to give their catless mid-pipe a try and maybe add some resonators in there as needed.

Price is pretty good too:

I don't hear about RPI as much but they are a very reputable company and I remember their axle back system sounded amazing with the stock mid-pipes!
