Help roof trim popped off
2 days ago we had some freezing rain
And woke up to find the plastic trim on the side of the CF roof had popped off I assume water had gotten between it and the metal body And when the water froze (and expanded) it pushed the plastic upwards When I examined it it seems to be held on with black double sided tape Should I get some betalink and use that? Or could that be bad to the CF resin layer? Don't really feel like taking it to the dealer and they mess it up I just need to replace 2 of those double sided tape segments They are about 2 inches long I believe there are 4 of them per side Here is a pic It's the shiny black plastic trim on either side of the CF roof That one that has the 2 pop up covers where the roof rack mounts It popped up at the end bit, right before where it meets the rear window Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

The roof trim is fitted with clips as pictured in #13, 14, 15...not sure if any adhesive is called for.

I saw that
But I assume you did what I did I entered my vin from my earlier 08 M3, since the vin from my 2012 pulls up nothing I think this might be a change for the 2012 Because I assure you it's not clips Or maybe the clips are attached to the body by the double sided tape And then the plastic trim is snapped on the plastic clips

That is off a 2011..I remember this trim piece would always pop off and I would have to constantly snap it back in on my 335..maybe the clips get weak over time :..I suppose some double sided tape wouldnt hurt.

I saw them About 4 of them And the other side of that clip has the double sided tape Unless the clip comes with the tape already installed? They are cheap and I guess it would hurt to order 2 or 3 I'm assuming it's a special order, and will take a long time So I thought why not try replacing the tape and see Will take pics tomorrow

The trim is held down by two-sided tape only. I had to have my driver's side trim tape replaced because the trim piece would not stay down - the dealership had to order the tape.

Same thing happened to me. I kept on pushing the trim down and it would restick for a day or two and then come loose again. Some dirt had embedded under the adhesive tape and prevented it from sticking. I mentioned it to the dealer at a service visit and they fixed it. They just told me it's a double-sided tape.

are you guys sure the trim is held down by tape? I have taken mine off numerous times(E90) and it doesn't have tape it is held down by 6 clips that run the length of it. It just pops back in.

My brother-in-law is a BMW master tech and until he replaced the tape on my e92 M3 he also thought the car used clips to hold the trim down - apparently with the CF roof BMW uses tape, not clips, to hold the trim down.

Might be different for the CF roof and aluminum roof because mine has no tape.

I have the CFRP roof on my E92 coupe and they had to replace the tape, too. Sounds like the E90 and E92 with sunroof just uses clips.

Same thing happened to me a week or two ago! Guess I'll wait 'till it's warm enough then have the double sided tape replaced. Grrrr.
Cheers.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but my roof trim popped off as well. I saw the tape thingy under the trim and it's not sticking. I'll let the dealer fix it, but will it be a permanent fix?

Hey Guys,
I got a m3 e93 and the thing is that the trim molding is not as the diagram shown, as it's cabriolet, the trim molding make part of the structure of the care, and to change it (as it's damaged) i got to spent U$ 1.300,00. Does somebody knows where can i buy only the trim molding not the whole structure? I spoke with the dealer and also with getbmwparts.com, all says the same thing. Please help me out. Cheers.
