go pro mounting points?

where is the best place or set up to mount a go pro in the car for track days. i have the motorsports edition and was thinking i could use the suction cup on the sunroof but video ends up upside down that way and cant seem to edit it back right. tried passengers window and gives good view of the driver and front view but also include the A pillar in the frame pretty prominently. headrest mount is my guess for best results. who makes the best, easiest to use one that accomodates the go pro?

If you have a GoPro 2 on page 21 of the user manual is the setting for upside down video/image mode. No editing needed.

There is an adapter for the GoPro that will enable you to use standard camera mounting gear.

I either hang it from the sun roof, or use a Contour mounted at eye level on the side of my helmet, but the Contour has a different bulk profile than the Go pro

I usually use 2 vantage points. Side window right behind the driver's window and the front bumper. The thing that sucks with the side window is the A pillar is in the way but I think this vantage point is the best for educational purposes.

I clamp my standard camera mount to the metal pole the headrest is on, then I got the GoPro adapter to use a standard 1/4-20 camera mount.

I permanently glued one of those supplied 3M sticky mounts on the windshield right behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side. From the driver position, you don't see the camera at all. This mounting point provides a great view of the track and the line, great for post-track-day-analysis .

Since I don't have a sunroof, I used the suction cup to mount the camera on the rear glass. This was to be able to see my driving inputs. However, once I observed my inputs were nice and smooth , I did not find any additional value to this view point. I prefer a clear view of the track to be able to analyze how well I am able to put the car where I want.

I enjoy watching others track videos but have to say I cant stand the constant wind noise from mounting outside the cab. I would say mounting inside the cab on the front glass (upper right, lower right or lower middle) would be preferable if you don't have a head rest mount yet.

Here's the view from the sunroof on upside down mode. You may want to change your white balance from center to spot. This will make the track look right but your interior will be very dark. This video is not shot with SPOT turned on, the one I posted above has it on.

Must comment...nice driving! It looks like you are just laying your hands on the wheel.

Here are a few of my favorite mounting points:

Rear bumper (especially if you drift )

Rear windshield

Front windshield

Front bumper

Door (and you can see yourself in the mirror )

dont really like the sunroof mounting spot. too much wash out of the track and doesnt seem to show much sense of speed. does shows very well what my hands and feet are doing and looked surprisingly smooth compared to how it feels at times. my grip also looks very light and easy. tried to upload using manage attachments and wouldnt do it.

The only way I found to post video on the forum is to first upload to youtube and then post the "long" youtube link in the thread.

There may be another way though...

Off topic, but man, I love the sound of your car. Especially the Laguna Seca video, those downshifts are pure bliss

When you upload the video to YouTube:
  1. On your Youtube page with the video, click on "SHARE" which will give you a link.
  2. Uncheck the playlist box.
  3. Copy the link which should look like

  4. Delete everything in the link except for the stuff after "...youtu.be/". In this case, I would leave "pF-37m0Uy7Y" and then wrap youtube code around it. There's a button when you reply in advanced mode.

If I had to complain about this forum...it would be a) too many smartasses on this board and b) embedding you tube videos seems a bit more tedious than other forums. I know, life is so hard!

That video is a close second to this favorite Kaiv video...
