Cool! Please report back with your thoughts on your new mod. I am also considering doing the 4 pipe method over the the OG 2 pipe method. I am concern if there will be drone and if it will be too loud.

So its done just waisted a half tank of gas driving around. There is no drone very stock at highway speeds and around town. But when you lay into it sounds like it should from the factory very c63 like. Im glad I didn't go the acm way for a daily driver. My wife even loves it so all and all its a must mod.

Hi,

I have one of the OEM exhaust mods and am very happy with it. A friend has a 1M and wants more sound as well so we were figuring if someone tried the same on a 1M stock exhaust...

Any ideas?

Thanks
Chris

I would not assume that the muffler configuration is the same between the two cars given the substantial difference in the powerplants. The concept might still work though - you'd just have to open it up, see what's in there and see if there is a way to cancel a portion (or all -depending on how loud you want it) of the sound absorbing system in there.

Crack her open and let us know what's in there.

Opening it will be the last thing to do, to be honest. Maybe there is already some lessons learned out there.

What I found out in the meantime is that you can use the midpipe section of the N55 engine which has no secondary cats. This is said to be a good improvement for both sound and power delivery.

Hi guys, I'm new here and this is my first post

I have one question:

When I drive my car, exhaust is quiet if I don't push car hard, and when I give it power it opens and becomes loud. It's stock exhaust and dealer said that this is normal thing and I like it because it's nice to rest from it sometimes.

If I do this mod, will exhaust stay like this or it will be always loud?

I hope that you guys know what I mean

I went to the same place as ryguy84, I love it. I did all 4 pipes. Loud when you want it to and quite when you are cruising.

It will be noticeably louder both when being gentle and when going WOT. However, the noise will only be on the outside and when driving with windows up it won't sound much different than stock (ie no drone in the cabin).

If you are thinking about it just do it, you won't be disappointed.

Ok, great, I decided to do it

I spoke with service that can get it done and they told me after they watched the video on youtube how to do it that maybe there will be problem with welding down side of new pipe because they are not sure how much space is there.

Is there a problem to weld down side of new pipe or there is enough space to do that?

Even if they can't, they will weld ~90% of the pipe all around. anything they miss will still have the pipe overlapped with the connecting pipe.

If you think about it, it will be like having a couple/few holes of perforation...which is a huge difference from the few hundred perforated holes you have now.

You aren't going to notice a difference.

So glad I found this post. Was going to spend (over-spend?) for an exhaust. I think I'll do this now!

Sounds really nice, is this straight through bypassing the middle section of the muffler? Or just replacing the 2 pipes? Thanks

Just modified my exhaust last week. Changed the perforated pipes with solid pipes. And I compared this with a M Performance exhaust. You can hear a little rumble at about 3800 RPM with the M performance. Definitely will pass the wife test and sounds civilized.

The OEM mod sounds mean, with low end roar pretty much starting at 2000 RPM.

The sad part is I might have to sell it to pass the wife test

How can anyone say that the MPe sounds louder and meaner than the OEM mod then? Sorry MPe owners, unless the video above does not have a real MPe, the OEM mod is superior in sound and will save you $3k. OEM mod ftw!

It's personal preference. You can tell that they engineered the sound of the M Performance. No, it's not going to show off your V8, but it has a little roar when you want it. Far more civilized and will pass the wife test.

The OEM Mod will show the V8 roar. It's a lot harder to hide the sound since the roar starts so low at around 1800-2000 RPM. I have a 6MT so controlling the sound is easier.
