GTR is expected, but I think 458 did a very good job given it is NA engine, and only RWD.

Why no DCT M3..+ launch control... The 1M has no business in that company.

LF-AIL - anyone else in shock about how much of a punishment the LFA is taking by the GTR.

GTR has the advantage because of the launch.....other cars in the bunch have a higher trap and would take it on the highway (458, etc...).

LFA would be a decent car if it was priced around 150-190k.. As is, it is one of the most stupidly priced cars.

Up high(ie over 100) a few would start to pull.

That was impressive. The 458 was getting in that GTR's kitchen there at the end. Gives you a pretty good idea of what a "lightly" modded GTR would do. Hell, you could buy one GTR as a DD, and one to mod (including mods), plus an M3 for the price of a 458.

Don't forget Road and Track M3 6 speed 12.4@114.9 MPH during the M3 best drift car article

Anyhow, to answer your concern
Elevation
Humidity
Air temperature
Ground Temperature
Tread wear/type of tire
Type of wheel/sidewall height and strength
Ground surface

This is assuming the transmission is the same and the driver is identical (this goes for all cars). These factors make a HUGE difference when were are talking about tenths of seconds and less than 1% mph differences. After all, we are talking about a mechanical pump here.

One would assume that the M3 wasn't there for the same reason the Porsche Turbo, ZR1 and GT500 weren't there.

They said "best driver's car", so that meant the 1M, GT3, Z06 and Boss 302 were on the list instead of their quicker and faster siblings.

+1, the 1M is nowhere near the 'drivers' car the M3 is.

I was disappointed they didn't use an M3, even though they used it in 2008 and it ranked an impressive 3rd. I believe it ran a 1:42.8
Still, they could've used a 12' competiton package car, I'm sure the time would've been cut down even more so.

As far as the others. Very upset they didn't use the 12' GT3 RS 4.0, but understand because there are only 136 examples coming here. Evo Magazine got about a 1 second difference on their test track 4.0 vs 3.8 RS. Big difference there in only a few miles
I "wish" they would've used the GT2 RS, but it is out of production and I believe an 11' model.

As far as the Boss and the Z06 Centennial go, those are the dedicated "track" versions of said model. GT500's and ZR1's just ad weight over the nose, load on the suspension, more heat into the brakes and "subjectively" worsen the handling, just not on paper because they have loads more power.

Remember this comparison wasn't about "fastest" numbers but the best "feel"

Randy Pobst appears to be the only "pro" reviewer that had such overwhelming negativity towards the 1M, in contrast with the majority of other reviewers who find the car to be in the same league/performance of the E9x M3.

Just curious, shift@red and Nine - have you driven the 1M?

If so, what were your personal likes and dislikes?

I was responding only in regard to what they said at the beginning of the drag race, as I haven't seen any sort of handling test. All four of my subscriptions from this publisher are terminally screwed up, and have been for two months, despite repeated calls. Missing last two issues.

Thanks for the tip, though. I'll look on line.
