Am I crazy for this trade up?

This is probably not the place to come for an unbiased opinion on this . So maybe I'm just looking for some support from like minded individuals (the wife just rolls her eyes).

So, I have a 2009 M3 which I absolutely LOVE. Love it so much, I want to trade up to a 2013 with all the specific options I want (those being Comp, Space Grey, premium sound, and 2011+ because of the taillights - basically want it fully loaded). I also like the idea of getting back on warranty and maint (which I plan to extend).

Well, I finally found the EXACT car I want, which took apprx 6 months to find, and am planning on going out there tomorrow to ride in with a black M3 and ride out with a grey one.

I'm selling my car on here BTW (2009 black DCT M3), just to see if I can pass it off to someone who will appreciate the cleanliness. And I'm grabbing the 2013 for $62k. Does this sound like a good deal? It's got 10k on it, is mint, and 100% loaded.

Another reason is I'll be making it only a semi-daily driver (won't drive it to work just to let it bake in the Charlotte sun or drive any weather). I want to keep the miles lower and keep the excitement alive when I drive it.

Of course, the flip side is it's going to cost me, of course. Even after crunching the numbers, I'll have less equity when all is said and done. Obviously, I don't give a !@#$, I feel it's worth it. Anyway, anyone else besides the wife think I'm nuts for trading up, same car, like this?

All that matters is you're happy. If you feel like you're going to regret it at any point...then you're an idiot Otherwise, enjoy. You can't take your money with you when you die.

From what i understand you love the E9x platform and want to keep driving it for years to come. You also want a newer model of reasons of warranty, better reliability, also the idea of getting the ideal M3 for you. (color, packages etc.)

Honestly if that is what you want, a 2013 is the right choice.

That's way overpriced. It cost almost that much brand new. Check the forums here. Others have bought theirs for almost $10k less and same specs as yours.

You think? It's 75,xxx MSRP brand new.

I'm thinking it's a bit high, but not crazy high. And the fact is, I'm having a hard time finding my exact option preferences.

Can you explain or point to cheaper options?

How is that even relevant? It's a 2011 without the specs he wants (mainly the color and the lack of ZCP) I'm also going out on a limb and assuming he wants DCT.

Reasons: The Melbourne color is atrocious. Of course I'm exaggerating and it's 100% subjective, but the fact is, that color is not nearly as desirable as a space grey. Plus it is a manual, also another huge showstopper for your *average* M3 buyer. Plus, it's not ZCP, yet another. And the miles are great for a 2011, but it's coming out of warranty, which lowers it another couple thou.

Someone above said 59 and that is what I planned on from the get-go. But could never find one in that color, loaded, and not "suspect." The bottom line is that I'm having a much tougher time finding that combo - there are plenty of used M3s out there. But they all seem to have some kind of gotcha.

Anyway, not trying to be a dick, thanks for the feedback. Remember, this post is mainly to reinforce what I already know and help build my excitement for tomorrow Woohoo!!

BTW, the dealer is listing it at 64, but I got him to 62 already. He might come down a bit more, but not much. Especially since I have to drive 4 hours to get there (he knows I'm serious).

If you're looking for a deal, then haggle. But I know its hard to find the exact combination that you want in a used car. I paid a couple of grand over the avg for my car just so I can get the specs that'd make me happy. If this car will make you happy and you can afford it, by all means go for it and don't forget to post pictures.

It was there COB yesterday. But it's totally possible based on your sig... did you sell it today? The dealership was closed today otherwise I would've come out.

The dealer should have more room to move. Don't let the fact that you're driving 4 hours be used as leverage against you. $57k is the right price. The e9x is officially a "previous generation" now.

Walk if you have to. Dealers can deliver cars to your doorstep

$57k is very low. I had dealers making cash offers at that price.
