Track pads for StopTech BBK?
Right now, I'm trying to get over a severe case of sticker shock...
I'm getting a ST-380/355 kit put on in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to find track pads for them. As if the brakes themselves aren't freakin expensive enough, the pads are like double what I'm running now. For the OEM calipers I've tracked with Carbotechs, Performance Friction, and Pagids. Was looking to get another "quality" set for BBK but am not excited about paying $750+ every few events (actually I'm kinda pissed off!!), but I guess that's life in the proverbial fast lane... I'm now looking at Hawks, and others, as well as the above. For those of you who track a BBK, specifically the ST, what pads are you running and finding to be a good overall VALUE?

Pagid RS14's on the front & RS29's on the rear.I am still on my orginal rear set after about 20 days.I went through 11/2 sets of RS 29's before going to the 14's up front. The 14/29 combo works better as I now have a better balance when the brakes are hot.The 29/29 gave too much rear bias for my taste.
You pay more for the Pagids up front but they are cheaper in the long run and they are very rotor friendly. My front rotors are still well within limits but they are starting to heat check quite a bit so I will probally change the rotor rings before the new season starts. On my 330, I've found that my PF01s pads last longer with the Stoptechs vrs the previous UUC/Wilwood BBK.
If you go to a track that is not hard on brakes, I've seen quite a few people that are happy with the ST street performance pads...the ones that come with the brakes.

I've melted some stock pads (VIR) and some "street/performance" pads (Road Atlanta) already, so I'd like to start out with the Full Monty right off the bat. I'll run the ST S/P for the daily drive. Quote:

I could be wrong but I think pads will last longer with your stoptechs compared to your OEM brakes since the you have a larger rotor not to mention ST's aero rotor is supposed to help cooling.
I think PF01s run about $350 for the ST40s which is inline with what PF01s cost for other pad shapes.

FYI, I checked, the PF-01s for ST-60 are $430/pr. So, yeah, like about $800 for a set. That just seems insane to me for brake freakin pads. I think (hope) you do get what you pay for here. (long sigh)

I competed with pfc01's in oloa this year - they were great! Then I tried cobalt xr1's and they were just a tad better with the release. Both will last a very long time if you don't street them.

If you haven't raced in all out race pads (and I'm not talking about most of the stuff that is a compromise between street and track) then you may not know what I'm talking about.
I had a USED set of PFC01's with my stock calipers for oloa, running over 5k miles, tracking everyday for 8 days. The pad depth change was around 2-3mm. There was almost as much wear on my rotors. This is the stuff that need a lap or two to get to full temp and before that it doesn't bite. most of the wear is from cold pads- on the track they really last a while. I had them on the street for a few days and kids were crying, mom's screaming, pulling their kids away, drive thrus quickly slam their windows shut and give you evil looks. yeah these kinds of pads... |

If you're looking at PFC01's and cost is a consideration, you should consider the 06's. They are within 4% torque of the 01's (according to PFC's website) and last much longer. I'm using them right now in my stoptech's and am happy with them. Only complaint is that they take a lap or two to warm up (not ideal for Time Trialing) and take considerable bedding effort in the 1st session to keep from juddering.
I'm serious about the Raybestos pads. Google raybestos st43 and see what I mean. Last time I checked, they were in the mid $200's for the ST60 and st40 caliper shapes. I've been using them for at least 7 years now and even used them in the stock M3 calipers. They're a real bargain for the stoptech's. It would also be helpful if you mention your intended use of the pads (HPDE, Time Trial, Enduro, etc) |

I've seen your recommendation and I'm interested. So where do you buy your Raybestos pads from?

RichardRobert,
I couln't find the PF-06 for StopTech. Will also look up the Raybestos. I'm doing mostly HPDEs and lapping events like Chin, MVP, etc. Nothing too exotic. But I love going hard into those braking zones!

Porterfield sells the raybestos and pfc. Even though most don't put the pfc 06's on their websites they're readily available. I got mine from OG racing.
I would also do yourself a favor and install knockback springs in those front stoptechs before you install them on your car if you're serious about tracking. I've got to find the time to remove my calipers and install mine. |

I have tracked extensively with StopTech SP pads on my ST BBK (AD08 tires). They work well for the price (~$100/axle), and the pro drivers who drove my car would also agree with me. This is from on-track experience on Texas tracks. In 100 F weather my engine would overheat before my brakes. Obviously street pads are less consistent, so you may yield a different result on a different track.
For more aggressive pads, I carry DTC-70/60 ($399/$292) and Pagid RS29 ($409/$309). I would recommend using them on at least semi-slick tires. On street tires you may engage ABS pretty easily with high coefficient of frictioin pads. If you need help let me know.

How much are Endless pads for the ST60/40 calipers?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I tried Carbotech XP-10s on the stock calipers, felt good but didn't last very long for me, went through ~70% of front set in one weekend at Road Atlanta.
