That's not bad at all.

The most recent offer I worked out with BMW Toronto for a 2013 M5 was 4% off the MSRP, which means dealer's take is 4.87% margin.

Did you have to pay nearly $4000 for freight & pdi along with whatever doc fee/ adm fee? I was shocked by seeing that on dealer's spec sheet.

Yup. The amount of discount negotiated for just enough to cover all these crappy fees. That's how I negotiated to my best ability at that time.

Many other GTA dealers refused to discount even 1 penny off the M5, as one said to me "It a M5, you can't expect us to discount such a low volume and prestigous M car" .... this was quoted by Mitzi Brown, sales Mgr of Endras BMW. what a joke !

Maybe she's right for the wrong reason. It's all about price elasticity, or supply/demand. If the demand is there, they can sell for above MSRP. A better sales tactic would have been..."I have a few potential buyers at MSRP or MSRP plus, therefore unfortuantely I cannot offer you at a price below MSRP. I wish we could but we have such a small allocation of these terrific M cars...I hope you understand."

In the US, I understand a dealer can sell for MORE than the MSRP, this is illegal in Canada to sell higher than MSRP, to get around it, dealers may have to put in additional aftermarket equipments, say tinting to sell for more.

The buyers in Canada are not stupid, unless you don't care and simply want a M car at any cost, then I can understand. There are so many dealers in where I live, I can easily tracked down 10 dealers within a 100km radius zone and to see who is willing to deal. That's how I shopped and got my deal done and mind you, I have never paid MSRP on any of past cars, given that I change cars every two years or so.

Looks like the dealers here on the west coast having problem moving their 2012 M5s as all the dealers I have called/contact have multiple M5s in stock. They all promise VERY GOOD deals, but I am curious to see what they can do without factory incentives to help them making moves. In 2008, I waited until the last day of OCT and scored a great deal on my M3 (got nearly $8k off with 0.9% finance). I am willing to wait and see what will happen.

Congratulations to your M5 purchase and now just go ahead & enjoy it!

I remembered the M3 were sitting in many dealers lot right across the country due to the 2008 world wide financial crisis. I was in the market looking for one at that time, remembering BMW Canada were offering $5000 rebate (unheard of at any time) and plus whatever you can get off from the dealer, therefore, I am not surprised with your huge discount.

Another example I remembered back in 2008 was Nissan were offering if you buy a 370Z, the dealer will throw in a Versa in for FREE. I had never seen such giveaway ever.

State the source of your information. I read this several times on the internet yet never seen any solid and convincing evidence that it's true. MSRP is manufacturer suggested retail price. It doesn't have any legal standing and is definitely not some legally binding maximum price. Dealers can charge whatever they want as long as there is no deception involved. In fact I'm pretty sure many cars like the GT-R and the 1M are sold for way over MSRP when they come out as new models. Heck, I've SEEN a 1M selling for over MSRP at a bmw dealer a few months ago. The extra $$$ above MSRP wasn't some admin fee. It was clearly labelled as a "market correction" or "market price" or something like that.

Funny how I don't recall that. Especially since the 370z did NOT even exist in 2008.

I bought mine in the summer of 2009 and didn't get as much as a free can of pop from the stealership.

I am not quite sure where such info can be verify but back in 2008, when I still worked for dealership, we were not allowed to sell anything over the MSRP. however, there is a trick as we could buy back customers' cars (high demand ones of course) and sell them for more than MSRP. that's what I have seen with the 1M's situation. Could the policy be different in each province? Maybe but I don't know for sure.

It could be the dealership's policy or even the car manufacturer prohibiting its dealers from selling above MSRP. But as far as it being illegal, this claim keeps popping up on car forums everywhere. Yet no one has ever quoted the exact law that supposedly makes this illegal. No one has shown any instance of a dealer being prosecuted for selling above MSRP. And no legal expert has ever verified the existence of such law. There are laws for consumer protection and laws that prohibit price gouging and unfair trade practices. But none of these laws necessarily ban selling above MSRP.

Pardon me for not knowing the exact Z model. If the 370z is the newer model, then it must be the 350z.

The big giveway was in Ontario (GTA dealer), of course, I don't recall which dealer as it was placed in the Toronto weekly Saturday's Wheels section.

Here is a blog that also mentioned the deal. Pardon me again. It was 350Z Roadster and get the Versa free

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/free-...adster-629814/

Therefore, I do not know what province you are from and I cannot make any comment into your purchase.
